Boy Gizmo's forum has really taken off the last couple of months.
![]() I have not posted much here in the past because the posting had been a little slow around here. Not any more though. Gizmo's seems to have quite a few people logged in or viewing the forum all the time. I think that is great. The tone that people take here is so much more positive and friendly than at some other forums. I had been a follower of techsupportalert for a couple of years I guess, and I received the letter from Gizmo whenever he was still publishing it. I have to admit that I have gotten a lot of advice about free software from Gizmo's site and I am grateful.

Attachment 355 I don't hear anyone complaining though. Thanks to everyone for making this site what it is now (including the forum). Keep it coming!

Glad you noticed this also. It all comes down to treating others with respect, not letting your ego get out of control, and solving problems as a team. That's why I joined and will stay here. We also have some awesome mods around here.

I don't understand why on some sites. All you have to do is read through, then someone comes up with a bit of attitude and try's to make other people feel stupid and that they shouldn't be anywhere near a computer.
Obviously not everyone knows how to use a computer but if they made it to a forum and managed to sign up, Then they can't be doing that bad and if you don't ask how can you learn without going on a course. If people act like jerks no one will post. But thats what makes Gizmo stand out. While everyone argues on other sites people on Gizmo get along and help each other, That's why Gizmo will grow and continue to be great. Just keep the jerks away. |

Hi,
I registered as a member about two weeks ago, I thought it only right just in case I decided to take advantage of the various free offers that have appeared on here recently, Bullguard etc. I wanted to be able to thank the people who run the site via this forum as opposed to posting an anonymous message on the main website. As it turned out I didn't download Bullguard because I really have no need of it and, as tempting as the offer was, I resisted. I visit Gizmo's website many times a week, including the forum, because I have always found it to be a very useful point of reference plus, of course, the top class freeware that's reviewed and available to download via the links provided. I used to get Gizmo's freeware newsletter emailed, back in the day, always looked forward to receiving it, and always valued his opinion.. nothing has changed in that respect, other than not getting the email anymore. I always had this idea, an image in my mind, of this guy working from a room in his home, collating all this information and then dispatching it to his subscribers via email.. and the newsletter always seemed to have a personal touch to it. That's the way I thought of it anyway. Then came this website, the newsletter changed and I stopped subscribing to it, no reason inparticular, it just wasn't for me. I bookmarked this website and I've continued to visit, and make very good use of it ever since. And even though Gizmo himself is not as prominent on it as he was at one time he has put together a knowledgeable group of helpers, and to me that has enhanced the reputation of the website. I visit a few forums and tech websites on a daily basis, although this is the only one I've registered to, because I like to keep informed of all the latest happenings as regards software etc. I always think of them as something similar to a good radio show.. you get to recognise certain characters, the sort of people they are via their posts. Some you take with a pinch of salt, others you take notice of, and then you form your own opinion as to whether you take their opinions and advice onboard before you use the software. Over the last couple of weeks I have watched what I came to think of as 'the Bullguard drama' unfold on here with great interest.. and some slight amusement. The slightly panicked requests (understandable).. the many 'thank you's' .. and, of course, the complaints. I watched with interest as the questions were fielded by the staff here, and by Mr Midnight Cowboy inparticular. The whole episode was dealt with in an admirable manner, in my opinion. It was a credit to all concerned, but especially to him. I also noticed how the number of visitors almost quadrupled on some days, especially to the security threads, and how people were willing to pass on their knowledge and try to help others, freely. I hope this forum has gained many new members because of that, it certainly inspired me to write this. To pass on your knowledge and to help others in the way that you do on here is a wonderful gesture, as it is on other forums, but on here it seems to me to be done in a much calmer environment, friendlier, and with more patience. Again, that's credit to the people who man the site and it continues, to me, in the original Gizmo newsletter ethos. Helpful, well informed, friendly, and free. I hope this forum continues to grow in membership and that people who may not be 'rocket scientists' can feel confident enough to ask questions without feeling belittled... which is a weakness on the part of some forums and one that I don't particularly admire. Gizmo's freeware is a very fine website, complimented by a fine forum, which in turn is run by some very helpful and knowledgeable people... it deserves to grow in strength. This is only the second time I have posted anything here, and I apologise for taking up rather more space than I intended when I started typing.. I just wanted to let the people here know that their efforts are very much appreciated by myself, and doubtless thousands of others.. although not too many will always register their gratitude, that's life, right ? If this is in the wrong thread then again, I apologise.. feel free to move it, delete it, whatever. I'll disappear into the background again now, but if in the future I feel as though I can pass on any advice etc, I will... such as it may be. Keep up the great work on here, all of you... and thanks for letting me use this platform to say my little piece. Cheers. deya. |

Deya--I don't know if it's technically the right thread or not but I certainly greatly appreciate your sentiments and your willingness to post! It was certainly uplifting for me to read your post. Thank you.
We don't often get a lot of thanks, but when we do, know that we certainly appreciate it. We are all passionate about this site and what is has become and what it will continue to grow into. You can't find a finer, funnier (is that a word?), and more passionate group I don't think in any forum. It is a great group of people to work with and a great group of people who frequent this forum. Again, thank you for your kind words.
