Default Giveaway of the Day

Giveaway of the Day is one of the best resource sites on the web because if you ever want to see the most junk concentrated into one place then this is the site to visit. Maybe I'm being unkind because they have had the odd good promotion and I realise there are 365 days to fill in most years, but what gives with all this “Wondershare” stuff? Next we'll be seeing the Wondershare Online Pig Farmers Manual. Also, when you read through the comments it seems that much of what's on offer is specially doctored for the event. Am I missing the point here and in a minority of one or does anyone else feel the same?

This is an interesting point.

What is interesting is how these software producers break down individual apps for each file format IE: video to flash, swf converter, mp4 converter......etc. The list goes on and on. Its obvious why its done this way. I just wonder how many people purchase each and every app. I am all for the free market but this is also why good quality freeware circumvents this nonsense.

Cheers

I admit that I receive daily email notification of all GiveAwayoftheDay's. (This includes GameGiveAwayoftheDay as well; which hasn't been updated in weeks.)

However, I can't remember the last time I downloaded or installed something that they've offered. I have even quit mentioning them on Hot Finds.

I feel lucky if they offer something once every 2-3 months that I might find useful.

They've offered enough Registry Cleaners and DVD and YouTube type programs to last more than a lifetime....

Thank goodness for that - I was beginning to think it was just me. As a psychologist I would actually call this "hope syndrome" and I must suffer from it too because every day this is one of the first sites I visit in the "hope" of finding something useful

Still, you never know. If I ever need an index converter for my codec management console there's sure to be a Wondershare version just round the corner

Wondershare is actually one of the better products they offer imo. Still, there's rarely anything useful that is superior to freeware.

This is a good place to check out reviews of giveaways: http://dottech.org/category/gotdreviews

Well may be not suitable content for a freeware forum but Im more interested in Bitsdujour www[dot]bitsdujour[dot]com Much the same can be said about selection. Old dusty hardly supported software overrun by freeware but one day you get to install and try out something interesting. In the case of my link also a noticeable discount. From what I can tell license stuff is as good as full price, Giveaway often, always?, has strings attached. Must be installed on that day and updates are lacking. Software not fully licensed in other words = I would chose freeware any day. I see more point in keeping eye on Bitsdujour payware... Some programs/developers are worth paying for/supporting. Have to look real good If you have some overlook of options/alternatives there is not a bargain to be made every day, or week. Can happen though. Worth the rss-feed.

Well Anupam - if my link is to be removed think hard about how much and what Giveaway giveaway Dont let sitename fool you. They are only about payware and very much a commercial site. Products, downloads, installations are not free but limited, also time wise. Not freeware in any way, more like extended trial - then makers see how well they succeed in making users buy. Keyword buy...

Link to "Commercial sites" not approved? Going uphill then. Most sites are commercial, even some freeware have other thoughts than give away, like being bait for payware. Did not know rules were so strict that they react to such technical differences. Can see an interesting debate ahead but better not

js960, I have not removed the link, I have merely edited it. This topic is in the ChitChat forum, and that's why the link is still here, otherwise would have been removed totally.

You will appreciate that this is a freeware forum, and so naturally the focus will highest on freewares, and negligible or nil on commercial-wares. I do not want to go into the technicalities that you wrote in your post, because I do not want to get into unnecessary, unneeded discussions, or debates.

We offer a forum and this site as a platform to discuss freewares. It is our policy, not to mention commercial wares, unless and until absolutely needed. If a freeware is not available that will do the required job, then of course commercial softwares can be mentioned, but within our policies. We are providing the platform, you will have to abide by our policies.
