You seem to miss the point that Giveaway is also not about freeware, only payware. Where is the large difference kendall?
I don't know or understand your big issue with Giveaway, but you obviously have major issues with it. We will have to agree to disagree; but there is a large difference between Giveaway and a discount site like Bitsdujour. Again, I'm not saying one is better than the other.

I am saying that Giveaway is doing just that....giving away commercial software for free for a 24 hour period. It is freeware at that point. Is it good commercial software? Only the user or downloader can determine that. But, they offer usually a free license for one year. That is quite different from a discount site that offers software at a discounted price. That is not freeware.

However, none of this is even the point. The point is that some people here have been assigned the task and responsibility of being moderators or forum administrators. We have guidelines and rules to follow and enforce. You are certainly welcome to disagree with us or even our rules. However, we are volunteers....volunteering our time to try to offer freeware solutions to our audience. We do our best. We are certainly not perfect. You are certainly entitled to your opinion and you are free to express that opinion (within certain guidelines of course). We seldom edit people's opinions. However, there are of course certain things that we will edit. That is our role...that is our responsibility.

No it is not freeware at that point kendall. Software does not change status like that. You are only focusing on users not having to pay up. That is the trigger. Make no sense - even less with all these concerns I see popping up and have seen before. Free does not equal quality in any way. I thought main interest was about software with focus on freeware, not trying to fight payware. Im not saying one is better than the other either, pretty much the same actually. About quality? definitely Bitsdujour since you dont pay for crap unless stupid. Giveaway encourage clickhappy people to click! I said it was worth keeping an eye on for the instance where a needed payware is up for sale! Needed as in not having freeware alternative or just bad ones. I thought that was crystal clear. It is moderator who thinks this is bad, bad, bad and apparently dont mind Giveaway.

Exactly, only the user can determine what is good or not so may be freak less out about a link? Or live up to attitude and get busy removing all links to sites with commercial interests. Administration should not have so high thoughts of them self they dont feel a need to explain ruling - especially since I still have no clue why my post is a problem. I said already that this is an "interesting" debate because the more you think about it the more hopeless this invisible rules can be applied. Will be random at best. Just the nature of how internet, promotion works. This collide with the very obvious need to rule.

If Cowboy had posted about Bitsdujour and Ive said Giveaway was better someone would have said well dude, try read their terms. This is unsupported payware with no updates trying desperately to get popular because ordinary channels have failed - or software cant hold up to carry a price tag! We cannot support such schemes, feel free to look around for real freeware! I could have said that since this is a fact. Here hunt for free joys take over and site gets a positive vibe out of the box. Too bad content stinks though! So easy, like naked girls - always work, and give high rankings too. And that has to do with all this administration sensitivity trying to come off as being concerned? There is no end to moderation if this innocent link is a problem so wiggle, wiggle is needed. How much decided by rankings Cowboy? Well if so dont talk about administration either.

Hello again js960

Although I get the point your making. I believe your missing the big picture because your focused on the individual trees.

This debate has truly allowed me to see the forest.

Cheers
