Agreed with JL, the process that created that icon has likely been terminated.
In general, when a user moves the mouse over an icon in the taskbar notification area, the system checks if the process which created that icon is still running. If not, the system will remove the icon.
Check through the startup programs as suggested, also a try to run CCleaner or other
Tune Up Utilities to remove some unwanted programs can be helpful.
