Recently I too have noticed Avira becoming more aggressive with their advertisements. The last time I tried MSE it caused my computer to crawl, AVG was even worse. I'm aware that many use MSE and AVG with no problems at all. I have MSE on my sons computer running Vista and its works great.
Thankfully I use Linux 90% of the time. Problem solved.
