I often use them when I need to log into a website or forum, just to read/see something - and I don't really plan to return to this place often.

For example - if I wanted to read a white paper, but the website wants to send you marketing material in order for you to log in and register just to get it - I'd probably use a temporary email address to sign up for the site.
