While I agree with everything Chris has said, this one is the single most important. It is not worth the few dollars you save to get a package deal and register your domain with your host. I did this when I first started out and the host went bad 3 few years later. It took me weeks to get control of my domain name.

Don't even use flash for personal sites. Don't use it for anything. It should be banned. It is almost as bad as having background music on a webpage. The inventor should be thrown off the internet. rant, rant, rant, rant..........
