IMO this could be related to the installation. Check also the ISO image corresponds to your hardware architecture.

My preference is to create a free (unallocated) space in the hard disk and choose the Option 4 -- Specify partitions manually (even though I have other OSes in the hard disk). But it might be just me and I've not tried other methods whether they work equally well.
