Surprisingly all the issues you described here do not apply to me. Probably I'm lucky.
Gnometris game also plays ok on my desktop, btw, it's an Acer Aspire.
A step forward when I get time, I might want to try on Ubuntu 9.10 Remix to see if it suits my HP Mini.
