I also note the initial logo stays for a moment during boot time for Ubuntu 9.10, and the quick period begins after the logo disappears. My impression is that booting up Ubuntu 9.10 or Win7 takes about the same time, though I don't use a timer to gauge.

But one thing is for sure. I see that shutting down Ubuntu 9.10 is quick and noticeably much faster. The system completes shutdown after you press the button but before you have a chance to walk away, even faster than hibernating Win7.
