I have avast on my PC, and I did not had any problem with the updates. I think you may have to look under the application settings, and allow the Avast updates.

I have used Comodo before, and in my opinion, it is a solid choice. Its not for normal or novices though. If you can use Comodo, its the best choice out there amongst the many free firewalls present. Firewall is solid, and HIPS is solid too. System resources used are also very less.

I don't use it mainly because of the increased setup size of Comodo recently. That puts me off. Further, I am not very much interested in the Comodo antivirus, or the HIPS component... I just want a firewall. I know I can turn off the components I don't want, but well... that's just me .
Anyways, can you tell me what size it occupies on the hard disk when installed? I have a small hard disk presently(just 8 GB), and space is of matter to me.
