After Avira failed to update after a wait of 4 days -this was the second time in a couple of weeks- I have finally ditched Luke Filewalker and installed Avast 4.8.
Although the GUI is a tad confusing it appears to update itself without any problems and is currently scanning my PC as I write this. Hopefully things will work out with Avast unlike flakey Avira!

PS After uninstalling Avira I clicked on the link which took me to their website and once there I gave my reason for ditching their software ie problems with updates. Whether the powers that be take any notice of this is another matter.
