To simply look for the presence of a hidden system recovery partition (and any other partitions or unallocated space) on your PC you could run Windows Disk Management tool :-

The easiest way to access the disk management console is go to Start-Run and enter "diskmgmt.msc" (without the quotes).

PS. As Anupam says, make sure you have adequate backups of you important files before tampering with your partitions.
