No, do not have a spare hard disk. HP laptop does not come with CDs, but has the option to create recovery DVD/CD besides the recovery partition that already exists on the hard drive. So, you have to make the recovery DVD yourself, which will contain the OS, and the drivers. In case of any problem, put the DVD in and will start the recovery on its own.
But, I think in the process, the partitions made will be lost, as it will return the laptop to the original state. I hope the partitions created would not pose a problem to the recovery process. Will have to try that out.
