The really great thing about this though compared to Windows is the amount of choice available.
Anyone following my ramblings from an early stage will know that I have no option but to connect from where I live using a USB broadband modem. My knowledge of Linux is not good enough to script the connection myself so I have to rely on the local wise guys who only want to work with Ubuntu because it's easy. Left to my own devices I would probably have chosen either PCLinux, SUSE or even Mandriva. Maybe when my experience evolves I'll migrate to a different distro like so many others before me.
