They are trying to make it possible for the user to choose the thread priority of the scanning and checking processes. The lower the priority, the less it will interfere with any other programs you are running.

Oh, did you mean you want it to start with Windows and then keep checking for updates throughout the time the computer is on? I understood that you would prefer that the processes of checking and searching to demand less of your CPU while you run other processes.
