Introduction

This is a listing of 35 sites that legally offer free courses, presented in audio and video, online.

There is also a listing here at Gizmo's Freeware of written materials at  

All of these sites listed have content that is legal for them to distribute and for you to read and/or download..  If you find that any site listed is offering content that can not be legally transferred, please let me know in the comments below.

This list is not comprehensive and if you know of any other sites please post in the comments below or at our forums.

Free Audio & Video Courses Online

Academic Earth   has a large selection of University level courses and lectures available for free viewing online without registration.  These are gathered from sources around the web.

Education Portal  has over 40 free online video courses available for free viewing online without registration.  When you pass an exam on the course, you may gain college credit at over 2900 colleges.

Free Math Help offers free video courses (as well as written ones) in 6 disciplines of Mathematics.  Allavailable for free viewing online without registration.

Harvard Exension School  has 10 free courses in its Open Learning Initiative for free viewing online without registration.

HippoCampus   has a good collection of instuctional videos in mathematics, natural science, social science and humanities for free viewing online without registration.  These range from basic to advanced.

iTunes U  our editor, here at TSA, Robert Schifreen has posted information on the free lectures and courses available through iTunes in his article 300,000 Lectures From The World's Top Universities.

Khan Academy  offers over 4,000 free videos on a wide variety of subjects for free viewing online without registration.  

MasterMath free online video courses for Middle School available for free viewing online without registration.  Worksheets and quizzes accompany each video.

Math Flix Loyola University of Chicago offers a large collection of free Quicktime videos in a wide variety of Math related items.  This is geared to High School learning level.

MathTV   has a large number of mathematics instructional videos for free viewing online without registration.   These appear to be basic.  There are also video Textbooks, which look to be more advanced.

Midnight Tutor   has a large collection of free online Calculus and Chemistry instrucional videos for free viewing online without registration.

MIT  The Massachusetts Institute of Technology offers a huge collection of courses in a wide variety of subjects in its OpenCourseWare collection. 

My Own Business  has 2 free courses on how to start and then build your own business.  Each comes with written materials and video presentation of the written materials.  Each available for free listening online without registration.  Free registration required if you want a certificate.

Open Education DataBase  has links to over 10,000 free online courses and lectures.  Thanks to Rhiannon, an editro here at TSA for this link.

Patrick JMT   offers a huge collection of free math instruction videos.  All are available for free viewing online without registration.  These range from bassic to advanced.

Science For Kids offers a number of free science videos as well as 6 free videos in its Math section aimed at young children first learning .

TedED offers a large number of free short educational videos for free viewing online without registration.  There are also some online questions on the course and links ot further materials (some are pay).

The Faculty Project offers 16 free online video courses for free viewing online.  Free registration is required to view the courses.  These look to be some very well set up courses, but they are part of a pay site so there may be some prompting to the pay courses.

Tutor-USA offers free video lessons in eight areas of math.  All are available for free viewing online without registration.

University of California Berkeley has a huge selection of free courses available as free audio and video downloads from the iTunes store.  All are available as free audio and some also as free video.  These cover a wide variety of subjects.  Sopme are also available at YouTube (below)

University of Califormia Irvine has a large selection of video courses available for free viewing online without registration.

Watch Know Learn has over  35,000 free videos in a number of disciplines available for free viewing online without registration.  Age range varies from 3 to 18.

Yale University offers free open courses, with audio, video and transcripts available for free viewing online at YouTube or iTunes.

YAY Math! a site started by a High School teacher who filmed mathc classes in Algebra and Geometry.  These videos are available for free viewing online without registration

Free YouTube Video Courses

YouTube has a large collection of educational videos.  Some are from the sources above, but still worth listing as they are a separate source.  All listed are for free viewing online.

Columbia University offers two complete courses and a large number of lectures both here on the main listing and in the channels for the schools within Columbia.

EDU Primary & Secondary   a huge collection of video courses at YouTube covering kindergarden through 12th grade.

EDU University  a huge collection of video courses at YouTube on the university level.  Some are short lectures and others are full courses.

European Graduate School has some courses and a good amount of lectures and sessions available.

Insights Into Mathematics has a large collection of courses and videos regardingg mathematics.

MIT  The Massachusetts Institute of Technology offers a large collection of courses in a wide variety of subjects.

Oxford University offers a 27 lecture course in Quantum Mechanics and a 10 lecture Science Seen Another Way.

SocioPhilosophy gathers courses relating to Philosophy from sources on YouTube.

Stanford offers several complete courses and a large number of lectures both here on the main listing and in the channels for the schools within Stanford.

UC Berkeley  has 5 free courses in diverse subjects available.  These range from 12 lectures to 39 lectures each.

Yale University  has 42 free courses available.  These are in diverse subjects and range from 22 lectures to 38 lectures each.
