Introduction

This is a listing of sites that legally offer free books on Health, Fitness & Medicine, for reading and listening (audio).

All of these sites listed have content that is legal to distribute.  If you find that any site listed is offering content that can not be legally transferred, please let me know in the comments below.

Health/Fitness/Medicine

Search engines provided by the the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) are placed at the top of this list (rather than alphabetically).  Note that MedLine Plus is a portal designed to give the general public ready access to trustworthy health information. 

MedLine Plus is a great, trustworthy site for general health information, including tutorials, clinical trial updates and the latest news in medicine. You can also find plenty of books, including some  intended for children.

PubMed Central This search engine covers all the open-access articles [rather than books] available on PubMed, the NLM's main academic portal (where you can also find abstracts from many restricted-access articles).

PubMed Bookshelf is an engine which lets you search for (and then consult) books containing keywords of your choice.

2020k (Health Mind & Body) Large collection of links divided into categories and sub categories

Amazon has 20 free books in its Medicine category available for free download in KINDLE.  Registration at Amazon is required.  I am not certain that these are available to non-USA users.

BookYards (Health)  Around 50 books on medicine and personal health available for download in pdf.

ChestofBooks (Health & Healing) Around 100 books available for online viewing.

eBookLobby has 39 free books in its Health, Mind & Body category, which is also divided into 6 sub catgegories.  These are available in different options of free reading online or download.

ForgottenBooks has 121 free books in its Self Help category available for free download in PDF.

FreeBookCentre has a large listing of medical books.  Many of these are links to articles and some are to books that can not be viewed, but still there is a huge amount of medical information here.

Free-book.co.uk has a dozen free books in its medicine category.  These link offsite, so download/viewig options vary.

FreeBooks4Doctors offers free medical textbooks and other health literature.  Links are offsite, so download/viewing options vary.

FreeEBooksBlog has 10 free books in its Health category.  These links are offsite, so download/viewing options vary.

FreeeBooks.net (Health)  (Fitness) (Psychology) 140 books on health and self-help topics available in pdf or html

GetFreeEBooks  has a nice collection of free ebooks for the average user.  Nice variety of health and fitness books that are unique to the site.  Download and viewing options vary.

GoogleBookSearch (Health) 146 books available for online viewing or download as pdf.

HesperianFoundation  offers about 15 books on basic health and treatment for free reading online and dowload in PDF. 

ManyBooks (Health)(Psychology) Around 250 books on unique topics in the health and psychology fields available for download in several formats

MemoWare (Medicine) 572 writings regarding medicine and health available in varying formats.

oBooko has 18 free books in its Health & Self Improvement category as well as 45 free books in its Mind Body & Spirit category.  The ones I looked at were PDF in zipped files.  Free registration is required, but no spam at all received by me.

OnlineBooks4Free (Medicine) Over 200 writings, mostly studies, but some books available for online viewing or download

Remedies4 offers a very good size collection of holistic healing books on a wide variety of health issues.

Web-Books has 25 free books in their Health category.  These are all available to read free online or for download in WEB and WEB database.  Viewing the downloads requires their Web Viewer (free) which is clean as far as I can tell

WitGuides (Health) 87 books on fitness, parenting and relationships

Health/Fitness/Medicine (audio)

LearnOutLoud has 20 free audio books under its Health & fitness category.  They are available in different ways, including online listening, MP3 or MP4 as many link to other sites.
