Great Authors - Free Books Online

This listing is intended to gather together sites that have the works of the more accomplished and known authors.  This page is by no means a complete listing of the authors or of the available works by the authors listed.  This is a work in progress.

Any additional information on the author's listed would be appreciated and may be posted in the comments below.  Any additional authors to be added may also be requested below and consideration and effort will be made to include.

The groundwork for this page was provided by Sea Mac a/k/a "Software Santa" and his contributions here and on the other book pages are greatly appreciated.

All of these sites listed have content that is legal for them to distribute.  If you find that any site listed is offering content that can not be legally transferred, please let me know in the comments below.

A comprehensive alphabetical listing of free books for reading or listening can be found on these pages:

Libraries are also an excellent source for reading and listening materials for children.  To find out more information on your local library, the links here may help:  Library Information

Hi, i just wanted to also suggest the site for audiobooks of books that are older than 75 years. it is the public domain and it is an amazing place. i often download for my 8yr old son those good old classics in audio and free, and he LOVES them.

Thanks again.

I have been tied up on my bittorrent pages updates and am going to chill for a bit.

If you want to edit this page on your own, I have no problem at all. This was your idea and you have put most of the work into it.

by Sea Mac on 3. April 2011 - 16:25  (69403)

OK. How do I get it to say "Edited by Sea Mac"? It said YOU were editing the Main one as I was doing it. What am I missing here?

But, Yeah, I've got the hang of digging up good things to share here .... I've kind of been doing it for 3 and a third years on my own - and this domain is actually my favorite 'mine' so if there is some way to pay it forward by ADDING to the heaps of treasure already here I'm GLAD to Contribute.

by mr6n8 on 4. April 2011 - 0:17  (69410)

I am not sure what is going on with the edit issue. I was not on at all today.

I'll see if I can get some info and get your name up there.

I have not been there in a while, but I remember your site. I was impressed with the wealth of info for a one man operation.

I Am finally back from my extended vacation and ready to edit again. Can we get the "edited by" tagline issue fixed?

by MidnightCowboy on 19. November 2011 - 4:53  (83524)

Good to see you again :) If mr6n8 can just confirm here or by PM, I will sort out the necessary.

by mr6n8 on 19. November 2011 - 6:52  (83530)

No problem. Glad to have Sea Mac back.

by MidnightCowboy on 19. November 2011 - 7:29  (83532)

Now all set up :)

Thank you very much!

I stand on the Shoulders of Giants.

Sourceforge/Tucows/Softpedia/Tech Support Alert/and many more - and now that Gizmo inspired me to add WOT ratings to my site it is easy to drag safe new treasure in regularly. I consider him the Giant closest to me in temperament, and his (our) shoulders the most useful in terms of me passing on great freebies to MY Visitors.

I don't mind mining his Windows site because I plan to add a WHOLE "Best of Macintosh free" section to it someday.

My site has good game recommendations: I think I'll start with a recommended games section and go onward as time permits.
