Free Computer & Internet Books Online

Introduction

This is a listing of sites that legally offer free computer and internet related books, for reading and listening (audio).

All of these sites listed have content that is legal for them to distribute and for you to download and/or read.  If you find that any site listed is offering content that can not be legally transferred, please let me know in the comments below. 

Also, I would appreciate it if you would post comments about any sites that you like or do not like so that information can be added to the site's listing here.  This would help new users to decide which sites to try.

This list is not comprehensive and if you know of any other sites please post in the comments below or at our forums.

Computer/Internet Books (Reading)

2020k (Computers&Internet) large collection nicely sub-categorized links to downloads in varying formats.

AllPDFBooks  has 19 computer books for free download in pdf.

BookYards (Computers) small collection of sub-categorized books available for download in pdf.

BusinessBookMall  has a large collection of computer textbooks available for download in pdf.

ChestofBooks (Computer)  4 books available for online viewing

ComputerBooks.us larger collection, subcategorized and available for download in pdf. 

DevelopNew a good collection of free computer software books available for reading online.

DigiLibraries has 29 free books in their Computer category.  All the ones I checked were available for download in ePub or for reading online.  Some also offered PDF downloads.  Thanks to Jonathan Malka for this suggestion.

eBookLobby  has about 150 free computer & internet related ebooks available for download in pdf.

EBookOffline Bills itself as "Your ultimate source for free Computer Referencing online" and it certainly appears to be that.  A huge collection of links in a wide variety of categories.  Since the links are offsite, download and viewing options vary.  Looks to be an excellent site for learning programing in a wide variety of languages.  Thanks to WeaverBird for this suggestion.

eBooksDirectory  has about 200 books in its computers & internet category.  These are further divided into 15 sub-categories and are available for download in varying formats.

ElegantSolutions has 6 free books in their Computer category.  All are available for free download in LIT (Microsoft Reader).

eServer Technical Communications has 875 works in its software section and 161 in its web design section (although a number were no longer available) as well as some articles in its other sections.

FreeBookCentre links to thousands of ebooks divided into many sub-categories

FreeComputer Books - Free computer, math, technical books and lecture notes.

FreeeBookDownloadLinks has a very nice size collection of links to free computer science books online.  Download options vary as these are links to other sites.

FreeOnlineBookStore offers over 5000 books on computer science and computer programing as well as training books for certification.  Many of these link off site, so download options vary.  There are also articles on computer programing. 

FreeProgrammingeBooks has a very large collection of programming ebooks in 33 categories available for free.  Most are available for download in pdf.  Others for viewing online.

FreeSoftwareBooks has a large collection of links to free ebooks and tutorials in a wide variety of categories.  Many of the links are to older works, but still worthwhile.  Some of the links have expired, but most still are working.  Since the links are offsite, viewing/download options vary.

FreeTechBooks - Computer science and programming books, textbooks and lecture notes.

FreeTechnologyAcademy offers free ebooks for download in editable doc format as part of their learning modules.  If you want to learn about Linux and free software, this is a good place to start.

InPictures is not an ebook site, but it is worthy of inclusion here as its free tutorials based upon pictures is a great start to learning the various features of Microsoft Office, Open Office, Web Layout and Web Programming.

In-Tech  offers 80 full length books for free download in pdf (zipped).  Large selection on the topic of robotics.  There are also about 2000 journal articles available here for free.

Into Windows   Into Windows has about a dozen downloadable PDF 'Tips and Tricks' Guides to Windows 7. Suggested by Sea Mac

KingZone  has a very nice size collection of free ebooks available in 13 categories (programming languages) for reading online or download.  The vast majority are for reading online.

LinuxDocumentationProject offers a good number of free guides, manuals and howtos on Linux related materials.

ManyBooks (Computer) 52 books available for download in a variety of formats

MemoWare (Computers) 758 writings available for download in varying formats

NoPayWeb has a huge collection of links to free ebooks and materials online.  Quite a few of these links were not valid, but most of them are.  The ones I saw were all for viewing online, but there may be some downloadable ebooks as these are links offsite.

oBooko has 4 free books in their Computers and Internet category.  The ones I looked at were PDF in zipped files.  Free registration is required, but no spam at all received by me.

OnlineComputerBooks - Good selection of free computer books in a wide variety of categories.

OnlineFreeeBooks (Computer,Programing,Technology) nice collection divided into sub-categories for download mostly in pdf

O'Reilly has an open books project where some of the books were created as open source and others have been added as they are no longer in print.  While most are older, there is still a good deal of relevant information here.

ProgrammingeBooks has a very nice collection of downloads and links for a wide variety of programming languages. 

RealTime - Free media for IT professionals

RobertSchifreen has made his new book "The Web Book", which covers everything involved in setting up a website available exclusively to visitors here at Gizmo's.

ScienceBooksOnline  has a large listing of links to computer science books available for download in its computer science category.  Since these links are off site, download options vary, but most seemed to be in pdf.

TechBooksforFree offers a wide range of free programming and computer books divided into nine main categories. 

TechToolBlog  offers links to 345 free online computer programing books.  Since these are links off site, download options vary.

Web-Bookshas one book, HTML tutorial, in its computer & internet category.  These are all available to read free online or for download in WEB and WEB database.  Viewing the downloads requires their Web Viewer (free) which is clean as far as I can tell

Computer/Internet Books (Audio)

LearnOutLoud has 29 free audio books listed under the Internet sub-category and 8 free audio books under the Computer sub-category.  They are available in different ways, including online listening, MP3 or MP4 as many link to other sites. They also free video offerings in these categories (not shown in links here).

As you can see, I was only able to find one site with audio books for this category.  If you know of any sites legally offering free audio books regarding computers and/or internet topics, please post them in the comments below.
