Hardware problems
Blank screen before WXP PRO splash screen
Last Update: Wed, 02/11/2009 - 21:47 — MetalloHi,
I have been trying, with regular attemps, to solve this issue since 2002 but without success, so I do not expect you have the magic wand.
I run WXP PRO SP3, when I boot up my PC, after the BIOS check I get a blank screen for 33 secs, then the WXP splash screen.

i have a compaq presario pc.It has been giving a strange problem for the last couple of days. The problem is it won't detect some cd or dvd's although they are perfectly fine and would work perfectly in my friends comp(he has an lg optical drive). Its not like it isn't detecting any media but sometimes it would just refuse to read some cd/dvd's.I have already updated my drivers.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Is it safe to remove all those downloaded Windows patches
Last Update: Fri, 01/09/2009 - 21:13 — CecileQSW? HW? ????
Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Just saw a post to here from GAOTDD where they were talking about registry cleaners.
Okay hard drive has filled up and win XP took to option to add/remove programs.
Most of the stuff is the downloaded "service packs" and security patches.
Do I need all those sitting on the hard drive? Is it safe to delete from Remove programs or will that actually uninstall them (which I'm thinking I not what I want to do)
TIA

I bought a NEXXTECH enclosure in order to put it in but it seems that it doesn't fit. I was wondering if anyone happens to know what kind of enclosure I should get to put my hard drive in.

CMOS Settings Wrong.
Last Update: Wed, 12/10/2008 - 03:45 — C. OvermannAs I turn on my computer this new option appears stoping the boot process.
It warns me that the CMOS settings are wrong, for this I have two options, press F2 (or F3 I can't remember) for automatic setup or default setup, and F3 (or F2 I can't remember) to set it up myself.
I chose the latter and the blue (BIOS) menu appears. I choose CMOS settings config and pressed F3 again to automatically detect masters and slaves. I set the correct date and hour, save everything and boots again.
