Stop manual services
Last Update: Mon, 02/16/2009 - 11:27 — Sanitylost in M...There are programs of all sorts that require a certain service to be running for for them to function. A lot of these programs install their own services when the program initially gets installed. A lot of these services don't actually need to be running when you are not using the said program or programs. I have most of these services set to manual so the particular service only runs when I start the related program.
Increase volume on 1 channel of an mp3 similar to Acoutic Labs Audio editor
Last Update: Sun, 02/15/2009 - 19:47 — ccchuckI've downloaded about 20 odd free ones so far, about half way through trying them out, afraid I might miss this function or miss a good program-
to re-cap, I have several files where one channel was recorded with low audio compared to the other. i want to increase the volume of the low to closer match the other.
The program I mentioned above (Acoutic Labs Audio editor) does it very well but since I have only a few files to fix I don't really want to spend $25..
any way that would be against the code of finding the freeware to do the job. :-)

PDF Converter
Last Update: Sat, 02/14/2009 - 10:47 — devanathannHi,
Is there a freeware software to convert PDF files to CHM format? I could find plenty that converts from PDF to DOC, but not to CHM. Most of the Google results point to "ABC Amber PDF Converter" from Process Text Group, but unfortunately that is not a freeware. Any help regarding this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Iconize all windows apart from the active one.
Last Update: Sat, 02/14/2009 - 09:16 — prenimaniI have many application windows opened at once. Let's say: a web browser, a picture viewer, a word processor, ... I can shift from one to another by pressing Alt+Tab or clicking on the icon bar, or I can activate a new application by the Start menu. The new window will go over the previous ones, and my desktop is a bit similar to my real table, cluttered with many open papers and books.
I wonder if an utility exists, that iconizes all the windows except for the newly activated one, thus leaving the screen background visible, all but a portion occupied by one window.
Thanks to everyone.
Looking for contract authoring tool
Last Update: Fri, 02/13/2009 - 21:41 — umanHi,
I am looking for a desktop software dedicated to the writing of contracts. The closest I have found is a server based commercial application described in this pdf (http://www.automatedhorizons.net/files/Genesis%20Datasheet.pdf).
Some of the key features I am looking for:
- version control
- visual cross-referencing of the paragraphs
-library of standard articles
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Alert for loss/restore of internet connection ??
Last Update: Thu, 02/12/2009 - 12:42 — RigsbyIs there a freeware program out there that occasionally checks to see if you're connected to the internet or not ??
There are programs you can run that test your connection, but I'm looking for something that checks for an internet connection (say every 5 mins) and audibly/visibly alerts you to the fact that your internet connection has been lost. Then audiby/visibly alerts you to the fact that it has been restored, however later that may be.

Prints as many copies of a photo as will fit on the paper
Last Update: Sun, 02/08/2009 - 19:18 — mikedutchWell, I really want 2 things: first, allow you to specify the size of the output photo and second to print out as many copies of the photo of that size as will fit on a sheet of paper.
For example, say I want to make copies of a passport photo. I have have a photo already but it is the wrong size. The Windows Photo Printing Wizard usually does a nice job but it doesn't let you pick a 2"x2" size which is required for U.S. passports (even using the custom dropdown selection).
... create an UNC link to a file
Last Update: Sun, 02/08/2009 - 22:53 — ldmpubHello,
For my daily work I'm searching a quick method or efficient tool to send by mail links to files stored on a server.
Actually I paintly use notepad to generate an UNC path to the file from Windows Explorer (copy folder's path from WinExplorer address bar then copy the filename, concatenate both and finally past all in my mail client -Outlook-).
Do you know any manner / tool than can help generated and send by mail UNC path to a specific file ?
Regards,
