I've tried most of the programs mentioned above with the exception of HijackThis and Advanced WindowsCare Personal, but non match the improvement in performance TuneXP manages to get out of my system. Though the option I noticed to have most benefit requires more then 512mb ram to work properly. It's called Disable Paging Executive, which forces the use of your hardware memory instead of the pagefile. As a result it requires more ram, but it really makes your PC fly.
MZ Vista Force
Last Update: Sun, 08/24/2008 - 14:00 — JonathanTThe tweaking software available at http://mztweak.bravehost.com/ , i find awesome.... the MZ Vista force resolved some of the major issues i was facing with the Vista OS like
1. ending crashed processes automatically while shutting down instead of the system waiting for it ( Vista used to wait endlessly forcing me to kill the OS )
2. clearing pagefile at shutdown thus reducing defragmentation
3. Disabling DEP for explorer curing some of the random crashes
