Windoes .NET Frameworks

Is it necessary to have all three Windows .NET Frameworks on my PC?

Tony is right. But, its not necessary to have all the frameworks on your PC. They are only required if a program requires a version of the framework in order for the program to run. Different programs require different versions of framework to run. So, if you have all the three, its bonus for you, but its really not necessary, unless, a program requires it.

BTW, i also had this doubt. And i asked about this just a day back xD... lol. So, you know the answer is not coming from me... lol. But yeah, it sounds stupid to have different versions. The different versions take up so much space... even the installers are huge. Trouble for those who have less capacity drive.

Yea I finally got through to Microsoft to some remote call center in Timbuktu, lol, and the rep said each framework is better than the previous one,i.e 3 better than 2, and so on.
He said if I had the latest,3.0, I would be ok.
I sincerely doubt that.
As Anupam said different programs apparently need different frameworks.
I settled on 2.0 and no problems as of yet.But the main reason for the ? was the exact reason of huge disk space required for each one.
Thanks for the answers from you and Tony

I am not to good at explaining this area, but the framework is as it states - a framework is what a program relies on to work and depending on which framework that software author has used will determin on which one you will have to load onto your computer. There are notes attached to software telling you which framework is required to enable that program to work. So its the foundations if you like. Thats how I understand it. So the the answer is yes you will need most probably all of them.

I am sure that someone will explain it better than myself

Tony
