THE wiki on a stick!

This is perhaps not the most obvious utility for a lot of people. But anyone who's ever used a wiki to present information will know just how useful a wiki can be.

Wiki on a Stick (or WOAS) is a stunning piece of work. A single, self-contained html file that is a self-modifying wiki with complete editing facilities that you can carry with you and use anywhere you can run a web browser.

I'm using one copy as a sort of PIM, where I can keep notes to myself, documentation of things, interesting stuff of all sorts. It includes search facilities so I don't have to worry too much about organisation, and reorganising my notes later is easy too.

I'm using another copy as a FAQ for something. It's small enough -- even with a few images -- to distribute by email.

It's hosted on SourceForge and, despite being officially a beta product, appears to have a community of enthusiastic users and is solid enough that I haven't had a single problem with it.

A couple of limitations: the documentation is embedded in the live product, so it's best to work from a copy when you start a new wiki, and the documentation is helpful but a little minimalist. For that reason, it's probably best suited to people who have already worked with wikis but it's not hard to use.

Its minisite in Sourceforge appears to have been created with WOAS, so you can get an instant idea of what it looks like straight away.
