Weekend Roundup December 18th, 2009
As the year 2009 winds down (as measured by the Gregorian calendar) articles, features and photos are popping up that summarize the year. Here are a few sites that I’ve run across this week that are doing just that.
The Big Picture - 2009 in Photos
One of my favorite sites, The Big Picture focuses on bringing the news in photographs. Well worth the time that the photos take to load, especially if, like me, you enjoy a global focus.
- 2009 in photos (part 1 of 3)
- 2009 in photos (part 2 of 3)
- 2009 in photos (part 3 of 3)
- The Decade in News Photographs
2009 Year-End Google Zeitgeist
Google’s usual year end summary of what people were looking for – global version.
Yahoo Year in Review
Yahoo has a great variety of topics – they put some fun into this year end list.
50 Best Websites 2009
The best 50 websites according to Time magazine.

Nice and clear photos, let us see what's happening in every corner of the world. Some photos I've never seen, such as this -- The Maldivian president and ministers held the world's first underwater cabinet meeting, in a symbolic cry for help over rising sea levels that threaten the tropical archipelago's existence. -- No. 27 in part 3 of 3.
I hadn't seen that photo either - I found myself wondering what they made the nameplates out of, what paper were they using, and what pens write underwater?
Interesting. All things, paper, pens, waterproof?
They used something - most paper dissolves in water if left very long, and in salt water? It would be interesting to know how it was done.
