Video Editing

Here's the thing the ONLY video editing software I've used has been Pinnacle Studio (ver 9 or 12) although I've had issues with'em both and it seems that they dislike various things on my machine and certain aspects don't work for long (for pinnacle) so I'm looking for a free video editing program that is rather easy to use (or learn to use) and it MUST have an installer, I say that cause I always forget about programs that don't have installers and they usually end up deleted from my computer... cause I know there is one video program out there that doesn't have an installer...

if ya can help me i'd like to hear your suggestions, because I'm looking at doing ALOT of video editing when I goto my girlfriends parents place over the next two weeks as I plan on doing some ghost hunting and perhaps even create a video or two of halloween :)
