A Very Powerful Windows Tweak Tool

Another day, another free tool for tweaking Windows internals.  But this one does seem incredibly powerful.  Among the list of features claimed on its website, it can delete data left over from uninstalled programs, kill multiple processes at once, uninstall multiple applications at once, export selected activity log data, produce a complete system audit, manage your restore points, manage your startup apps, and probably make coffee too!

Take a look for yourself, at http://www.spencerberus.com/projects.aspx.  It's free, runs on Windows XP and above (32- and 64-bit), and the download is around 3.5 MB.  You will, though, need .NET Framework 3.5 too, which the installer will acquire for you if it's not already on your system.

Many thanks to user "awgeewhiz" for alerting me to this Hot Find.

Runs nearly perfect on Win7 Ultimate 64bit, as long as you go to compatibility properties and set it to run as an administrator. Unfortunately the System Editor still crashes with an unhandled exception, even with version 2.3.0

The name may give it away, but I wrote this, and just found this posting by poking around in my long-ignored Google Analytics account. There's a new version that I posted on 2010-8-16 which I believe addresses all or most of the above mentioned issues. I've also added some error reporting features that will hopefully make if very easy to report any further issues - it's all good to post them here, but nothing will get done about them unless I hear about it. The error reports I've received have been extremely valuable.

The latest version is available here:
http://nucleus.spencerberus.com/

Thank you all for checking this out.

It does not work on Win7 32 bit, too.
Crashes every second.

by MidnightCowboy on 21. July 2010 - 23:09  (54703)

Well I have x32 W7 Ultimate and it's working fine. Believe me, if I was having issues I'd report them here and also attempt to take them up with the developer.

I am afraid it did not work at all for me on W7 Ultimate 64bit Every module in the progamme just crashed with unhandled exception errors,it was totally unusable, shame because it looks as if it could be great.

It is unwise to use tools for 32 bit Windows on a 64 bit platform. Asking for trouble. Unless the article states that the software works under 64 bit Vista / Windows 7 then don't use it.

The article and the product page both show that the software is 64 bit compatible, but maybe it does not work properly on these systems?

i get "unhandled exception has occurred in your application...
click continue/quit"
I have tried it on 2 diferent computers, with framenetwork instaled..

by Anupam on 21. July 2010 - 17:38  (54689)

Another user above has reported that error too. Are you using 64-bit Windows too?

by Jojoyee on 21. July 2010 - 14:34  (54648)

Haven't seen a program putting so many things in one place, really a control center.

Tried a few buttons of the program on Win7, mostly worked well, except for the "System Editor" button seems do not respond to me when I press it, but it still works when I go through another route via the menu item, Tools > System > System Editor. It could be just me.

I tried "Systemnucleus" a little but on two different screens -"Drivers" and "System Info"- it showed and error.
Since it happened time after time it is of no use to me.
Maybe it is not ready for prime time yet.

Everything is working fine on my W7 x32 except for a few bits it doesn't recognize like ssoundman highlighted below.

by ssoundman on 21. July 2010 - 15:31  (54658)

"Drivers" worked ok for me, although it showed what I first thought was a whole bunch of errors. Turns out they were just drivers not currently being used.

The "System Audit" took a while to gather the info, but seemed ok once it loaded except for a couple of hardware items. Apparently I don't have a motherboard in this computer - grin - because there was absolutely no info available for it; in fact, it still showed the memory info after I clicked there and then clicked on motherboard.

Still, it's a VERY comprehensive collection of tools, even running in safe mode (with networking - but not plain ol' safe mode) on Win7 Enterprise 32bit.

Nice find - thanks! Will recommend to our tech staff at our meeting tomorrow.

What error did you get?

by Michaelbeg on 20. July 2010 - 19:51  (54604)

I use this and find it great. 10/10 from me.

by MidnightCowboy on 21. July 2010 - 12:00  (54632)

I installed this too. Truly excellent. Well laid out - even "pretty" to look at. Having the process monitor, events log and system audit all in one place alone makes life a lot easier.
