utorrent speed problem

Good Morning to everyone. I am a newbie to gizmo's tech but have tried some of the to do tips - yesterday to be precise.

I actully tried some of the tip to increase my utorrent speed but there still are slow.

Let me back track some history my speed at utorrent & eztv were great until i brought home a Belkin F5D7230-4 wireless G router (for my wife's netbook mostly). From that time until now my download speed are low and sometimes none at all.

I have been trying to download seven pounds for the past three days; speed were between 5 to 10 kb/s and sometime nothing at all. I have forwarded the port, changed the listening port more than six times yet my speed are low. I use some of the setting you suggested your optimizing utorrent article.

Here is some info on my system. Its a new HP A600, 350 HD, 3gb mem running Vista home premium. My current utorrent settings are:

connections - Port 6112, (I tried this port was average at the beginning then went very low 54597)Add window firewall exception is checked.

Bandwidth - Global upload rate limiting - 23, alternate upload rate when not dL - 70kb/s, Global max number of connection - 322, max number of connection peer per torrent - 129, max numbers of upload slots - 5

Bit Torrent - protocal encryption is enable, allow incoming legacy in checked

Queueing - max number of active torrent - 3, max number of active dL - 2, Seed while(Default Value) ration is 100%..

I configured windows firewall for utorrent. also i disable norton firewall.

In the bottom of utorrent where you either get a orange or green symbol it more of the orange triangle that greet me.

I am still trying to download seven pound with speeds of 4.7kb/s downloads.

I am actuallythinging of disconnecting the belkin and going back to my old setup with my adsl modem and connect the belkin when my wife is using her netbook. Is it worth the headache.

In need of urgent help

Best regards

Richard

If you are having speed issues with µTorrent, then check out the Optimizing µTorrent for Speed guide.

My name is Pratik. Thanks for Response. I am from India. I have BSNL WLL connection as i stated above.

Try the Optimizing Vuze (formerly Azureus) for Speed guide.
It has links to guides to help clear the incoming connection.

I am using windows vista home premium with norton 360 V3.0 I have BSNL Wll ( wireless in local loop ) CDMA phone model is ( VIA telecom cbp usb modem- Clarity IIA ) I get speed of 156 kbps. but utorrent gives me red signal or sometimes yellow triangle. I cannot forward my port. I forwarded it with norton 360 but it not works. My port is 50002. Do you help me ? thanks in advance.....

I am not finding any info on uTorrent connectivity issues with that modem and ISP.

Have you tried running a torrent with Norton disabled? This would be a check to make sure your Norton configuration is complete and correct.

Are you showing the 156 in uTorrent? If so, that seems to be a fairly good speed for that connection.
Just as a test of down speed, you might try this legal torrent (just let it run for 5 minutes or so to see speed result)
http://torrent.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/torrents/KNOPPIX_V5.1.1CD-2007-01-04-EN...

I have seen some comments indicating it may be an issue with their DNS servers. Some say to use OpenDNS, others list different DNS servers. But I am not certain. I will keep looking around.

Trying the old setup is a good way to check and make certain that the port forwarding through the router was done properly. If you were (and also now, if you skip the router) getting good speeds before the router, then the problem is almost certainly something involving the router setup.

I assume you used this guide for the router. Did you also go through the Static IP guide?

Did you uncheck the box in uTorrent for the option to randomize the uTorrent port?
Did you disable UPnP in uTorrent and the router? (You could also try using UPnP and undoing the forwarding).
Have you been using Norton the whole time (before and after the router was bought)? Which version are you using?

The port 6112 is one that is used by dtspcd, but from what I have read is probably not causing a conflict. But, it would be safer to use a port in the 49152-65534 range. The port number does not affect speed other than avoiding ISP blocks and possible conflicts (which is what using the 49152-65534 range will do).

Although it is probably not the reason for your extremely low speeds, did you take the speed test and use the calculator as set forth in Optimizing uTorrent for Speed guide?
If so, what was your result on the speed test?

That router is a pretty common one and has no real issues with bittorrent, so you should be able to get it working with uTorrent.
