Last Update: Thu, 09/04/2008 - 00:45 — Spunked
Hi using uttorent and hope you can help me out; been trying these sets of numbers in the band width settings to speed things up-
22/ 0 / 120 / 70 / 3 and 0 / 0 / 200 / 50 / 4 and nothing seems to help any suggestions out their for better number sets ?
i am using w98se and i e 6.0. My d/l speed is 1310 kbs and u/l is 379 at the moment . . .
And do you know of any port forward forms maybe they can help me out . . .
thanks a bunch . . .

dude.. i read ur tutorial http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/optimizing-torrent-speed.htm?pag...
n portforwarded n got thru the can u see me test !! but still my speed refuses to go up.. here r d info.. pls do try 2 help
d speed tests in speedtest.net were d\l 1946kbps u\l 287 kbps..
n i set my upload to 80% too as per d azureus calculator..
n d torrents i choose hav a good ratio so i dont see where the problem is..
i dont seem 2 hav a problem with normal downloads.. only with torrents
m in india and my isp is BSNL which promises me 2mbps.. bt i gt only get a meagre 30 odd kBps in utorrent.. do help !!
Looking around, I have seen some comments that indicate that BSNL is throttling bittorrent transfers and using encryption may help.
In uTorrent at Options>Preferences>BitTorrent set protocol encryption to "forced" and allow incoming legacy connections.
Let me know if it helps.
Steve
wow.. thats seems to have done the trick.. speed has jus rocketed .. thanks mate.. ur a genius..
Rakesh
Great to hear and thanks for getting back.
If someone else with BNSL comes here with an issue, I will know that the encryption works.
Steve
n steve.. another small issue..
i am getting vaiable upload and download speeds in speedtest.net
a small change is ok but the difference seems to be very high..
i got 1943 d\l kbps one time and another time it is just 567 kbps
why is this so ?

Unfortunately that can happen on some of their test servers and the issue (I think) is with them.
The only things you can make sure of are to
1. Use the same test server
2. Make sure no torrents (or other down/up activity) are running.
If you take the test a number of times and most fall in the 1900kbps range, then you can pretty much assume that is correct and the one(s) that fall out of that range are due to their server issues.
Another way to test upload is to use a torrent with a good number of peers so there is demand for your upload and set upload to unlimited and see what number it settles in on.
To test download, you can try this knoppix torrent. Just let it run for 5-10 minutes (you do not need to do the whole download) and you should see its speed rise to your max (I just tried it). Do not run other torrents at the same time.

am getting excellent speeds mate.. so i guess d isuue was indeed with the test servers.so the peer rate must be high.. is that the concept ? can u explain a little bit clearly on this whole seed-peer thing..
thanks in advance
Rakesh
A “seed” is someone who has downloaded 100% of the content and is only uploading to peers in the swarm. “Peers” are those who have less than 100% of the content and are downloading from seeds and other peers and uploading to other peers.
What is BitTorrent
Generally, the higher the ratio of seed to peer, the better the download speed. However, this can vary depending on the upload rates of the individuals. For instance, the other day I was downloading and one of the peers was uploading to me at 450kBps. So, on that torrent it did not matter about the seed/peer ratio (or anything else really).
The Azureus-Wiki: Good Torrents page has some examples that generally hold true.
If that is not what you meant, let me know.
thanks for that info mate. really appreciate it..
keep up the good work
Rakesh
Glad I could help.
Enjoy

Oh well just tryed some new numbers and still stuck at 5.0kbs which is a 12 hour dl if nothing else goes wrong oh well and using westell A90 750015 07 . .
byee for now - sheech . . .
I found a thread from someone who has that modem at portforward's forums.
According to that person, setting all the options to port number of uTorrent and having one rule in and one for out and setting both of those to dstn.
http://forum.portforward.com/YaBB.cgi?num=1215114648/9#9
Hopefully that will make sense.
You will not be able to get good speeds unless the network status is cleared.
Oh well i got some new and very different numbers to try out and see what happens but the portforward guide doesn t have any answers, still have no clues about global start and end etc so what now sheech . . . thanks . .
What router make and model do you have?
Usually the global start and end are both the one port number that you are using in uTorrent.
Probably the easiest thing is to look at the guide to setting uTorrent up for best speeds here at tech support:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/optimizing-torrent-speed.htm
There is a calculator linked to in that guide that will give you the right numbers.
The guide also has links to guides for forwarding the port through firewalls and routers
If you have any Qs, please post back.
