Two DVD RW in one computer
First, I am just a novice in computer.
There was one extra slot for a cd/dvd drive in my computer that came with a Phillips dvd RW. I got another DVD RW drive from my friend and I have been trying to have both of them work in my computer simultaneously. When I connect both of them with the IDE cable, one with the Master end and the other with the Slave end, my computer get stuck as soon as the XP screen comes up. If I unplug power from one of the drives, the computer starts ok and the dvd RW works too. I have tried swapping the master and the slave end with each of them and when both are plugged with power cables, computer gets stuck. Only one powered, each of them work
I have a Packard Bell Pentium 4 CPU 2.93 GHz 448 RAM. Help much appreciated.

It's been a while - but - this has to be set up in the bios and I think you have to identify the HDs. Just search - 'set up multiple HDs' When the comp start go to setup and check the BIOS for HD arrangement. - dz
u should change the IDE cable first.and try switching power dongles.and sometimes drives act a bit wierd as that happens with me all the time.said ur a novice,do u really know making master slave connections cause ur disk has a discription label on top to help u figure out what's the right slot.
This might be a stupid question but are there jumpers on the DVD drives? If so check that they are set accordingly to the IDE cable configuration (master / slave)
Just a guess.... have you tried to repair Windows? Deep repair, the one where you install Windows on top of the existing installation. Nothing is lost (nor even the programmes you have now) everything is refreshed. Once I had to do so when a burner "burned" and the computer would not start with the new drive. Second time, when I replaced the mother board... and CPU and video card and memory modules... I just kept the floppy, both times the computer was saved. Some hardware changes are just too much for Windows. Don't forget to install SPs on top.
