Treo 700P owners UPGRADE to a 755 for FREE

Many people think the 700P is one of the best PALM Treo devices introduced.   Its rugged, easy to use, allows extended batteries within the existing battery compartment and has a full size SD card (so you can share cards, view pictures from your digital camera, and easily transfer files from your other devices).  Many people have paid for the 755 upgrade, but you don't have to.

Release some time ago the 755 included a number SW enhancments and an "improved" form factor, eliminating the nubby antenna.  While sleaker many have fond it less forgiving of drops, would rather have the atenna than the thicker battery, and have missed the flexibility offered by the full size SD Card.

Since most of the changes were cosmetic, the guts of both devices are the same.  Some enterprizing enthusiasts have figured out how to FLASH the recent 755 ROM upgrades provided by Sprint and Verizon onto a 700P.   It will take you a few hours and you have to patient and careful but it may be worth it for you.

What do you get?  The biggest benefit for me was stabiltity.  I stay on the Palm platform due the quantity of quality freeware and shareware available but the applications may not always play nice together and or push the Palm hardware and operating system to its limits.  I have found far fewer resets and other problems after upgrading.  It even helped me elminate a bug where my SD card would sometimes not be recognized.  The 755 upgrade also provides better support newer bluetooth standards including audio playback via bluetooth headsets.  Several free bonus software titles also get installed including V8 of Documents to go.

Caution should be taken to follow the directions carefully, you are flashing a new ROM image and it is VERY impotant to have a fully charged battery and have patience and under no circumstances reset the device during the upgrade process or you might fry your device.

Unfortunately there are only versions of this upgrade for Sprint and Verizon customers, although if you are only using your 700p as a PDA and don't have phone service than it should work for any phone.
