torrents/limewire/any other p2p file sharing programs not working

Can u please help me????

I live in a hostel where there are common routers for all the people. Uptil yesterday morning everything was working fine but suddenly the torrents stopped downloading. DHT shows '0 nodes'. This is happening to all the people who use any p2p file sharing program. Clearly the authorities have blocked all the trackers.

Other than this, the internet is working with nice speeds(almost 120 kB/s) for downloading general files

Please tell me what has happened and is there any solution for it???

Indeed P2P free softwares have been blocked. I've tried different programs and I don't obtain anything in my searchs.
On the other hand it's possible to obtain some results only with commercial software which makes me think : " what agreements have the governments and commercial firms reached " ? Money, money and money !

Frostwire and Limewire are 100 % exactly the same.

ares, limewire, frostwire, vuze not working with me 2

Also, where does the saved file get downloaded???

I mean to say: where does the file get saved after downloaded??

Which service are you asking about?

Well i tried to use bitlet first. After copying the url of the torrent fromm the address bar of the page into the bitlet page, I clicked on 'download torrent'. Then it asked for java authorisation. It asked for the username, pass. and Domain that i use to access my proxy server. What is the 'Domain'???

Sorry, I do not have an answer for that.
I looked around after seeing your post but could not find anything on this.

But u said that u tried bitlet. Did'nt it ask u??

No. Do you have Java installed?

Yes I have java. I am still not able to understand what that 'domain' thing is. I tried after that a few times, but still it was showing the same thing

I have a feeling that is from the hostel, probably part of their security that blocks bittorrent.

FYI: Changing the preferences to 'Forced' did not change anything.

Also, I guess I cant use Torrentrelay cuz the file I'm downloading is 4.43Gb and is 84.4% complete....but still i'll try to use it and ask you if i have any problems.....

Did you try BitLet?

It looks pretty clear that the authorities have blocked P2P. Probably not too much to do about it with standard P2P apps, but there are some other options (although limited).

To see if you can do anything with P2P software, I would suggest trying encryption in your bittorrent client. Since you mentioned DHT shows 0 nodes, I am going to guess you are using uTorrent (or the identical BitTorrent). In either, go to Options>Preferences>BitTorrent and at the bottom of the screen are the encryption options. Try setting to Forced and see if that does anything.
If you have a different bittorrent client, let me know.

The other options involve using bittorrent through the browser. Two of these will work for sure, but are limited in the amount you can download. The third I am not sure of, but it runs the fastest and has no limit.

TorrentRelay has a free service that allows up to 3 torrents per day (two at a time). For free users speeds are limited to 200kBs and there is a file size limitation (the site indicates a limit but does not give a size-I have seen 400MB and 763MB in articles). You must have javascript enabled to use it. There is one option to decide on, Load only when complete. When enabled, they will buffer the download and deliver when it is finished. This ensures the browser will not time out. Disabling this supposedly produces better speeds.

ImageShack also has a free torrent service where they download through bittorrent and then you download from them as an ordinary download when finished. There is a 10GB per month bandwidth limit.

I have used Bitlet and was very impressed with its speed. However, I am not sure if it will get through the block. As far as I know there are no limits. They also have a nice preview feature. BitLet does require that you have Java installed. I did have to change the port (within the 49152-65534 range) as they set it to 6881 and my ISP blocks that port. I also limited upload to 80% of my upload capacity. Both of these are on the Settings page there. After those changes, it ran as fast as my bittorrent clients.
If you try BitLet, I would appreciate it if you would let me know if it works for you.

For all of these you need the torrent's URL, which you can get by right-clicking the torrent download icon and selecting Copy Link Location.

Well, good luck.
Steve
