Three Keyboard Shortcuts for Faster and Easier Use of Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is not exactly freeware but it is very widely used and occasionally I will be giving a Word tip. Here are three keyboard shortcuts that I use a lot.
Control font size: I sometimes find that I want to make a sentence or particular piece of text display in a larger font size. You can do this through some menu manipulation but there is a quicker way. Select the text that you want to change, hold down the Ctrl key, and press ] (right square bracket) until the font is the size you want. Hold down Ctrl and press [ (left bracket) to make the font smaller. This shortcut also works in Microsoft Outlook.
Go to the end of the document: If you have a fairly long document and want to add something, here is a quicker way to get the end than scrolling all the way down. Use the keyboard combination Ctrl+End.
Go to the beginning of the document: If the start of a document is the place you want to be, use Ctrl+Home
The last two shortcuts work in other programs as well. For example, they can be used in Notepad and Notepad++. Try them in your favorite text editor.

Ctrl + e = center
Ctrl + l = left
I find the easiest way to control type size is to hold control and move scroll wheel up or down.
brilliant tip ,i will use this!!!!!
That changes the whole document, not just the selected text.
Here is a site that provides all of the codes to use with the ALT key (in Windows) to generate special symbols: http://www.angelfire.com/ak2/timothydrew/altkeys.html
Try ALT 248 to get the degrees symbol (as in degrees of temperature)-47°F in the US of A; if you're in Australia 47°C.
Nice one on the font change - I have not come across it before. Similar to Photoshop (for tool size changes), so easy for me to remember.
Ctrl+Shift+> and Ctrl+Shift+< will do the same.
I TRY THIS SHORTCUT KEYS ALT + 11 = ♂ MALE SYMBOL
ALT + 3 = ♥ HEART
ALT + 12 = ♀ FEMALE SYMBOL
ALT + 1 = ☺ SMILEY

chiyoko xue, Cool. I pressed the ALT key and went through a few different numbers and came up with a lot of different symbols. I few of these symbols I use quite a bit and this makes it a lot easier and faster inserting them Thanks. I ♥ Gizmo, too.
Thanks Vic for the tip on shortcuts Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] and they worked quite well in MS Word for me.
I was trying out the same shortcut keys Ctrl+[ and Ctrl+] in Jarte and they worked quite similarly although not exactly the same.
In LibreOffice, the shortcuts didn't work by default when I tried. The good news is it's customizable and I found the following steps work for me.
Steps to assign Ctrl+] to increase font:
1. Go to Tools > Customize > Keyboard
2. At the bottom boxes, select 'Format' category and 'Increase Font' function
3. Click inside the 'Shortcut Keys' box at the top, press Ctrl+], then press the Modify button and click OK.
Similarly, the 'Reduce Font' function can be assigned to Ctrl+[.
I second what Vic said; I appreciate your checking out the functionality of these tips in open-source-ware -- and finding a way to make it work.
Also, Vic: Thanks for the tip on Ctrl + Home (& End) working in other text editors. Ahh, this is nice ... I'd been wondering how to do this - or if it could even be done - for some time now.
Thanks for the information about other programs.
