Stop manual services

There are programs of all sorts that require a certain service to be running for for them to function. A lot of these programs install their own services when the program initially gets installed. A lot of these services don't actually need to be running when you are not using the said program or programs. I have most of these services set to manual so the particular service only runs when I start the related program.

What I'm looking for is software that will stop these services automatically when I close the related program or programs instead of me having to stop them manually using "services.msc".

Looking forward to your responses.

Thanks.

Ed Bott strongly suggests that attempts to disable windows services in an effort to improve system efficiency are counter productive and probably unsafe.

Thanks for the comment Peter.
I read the article and do agree. First though, I am running XP Pro not Vista but the services issue remains the same. Second, I don't "Disable" the services I set them to "Manual" so they will run when required. Third I am refering to "Third party services" not "Windows" services.
For instance, I use the X1 desktop search program. It indexes your files for searching. Even if the program is stopped the service (X1FileMonitor.exe) is still running and using CPU when investigated in "Process Explorer" so I have set it to manual. When I leave the computer I start the X1 Program so it can index while I'm not using the computer, in doing so the service starts automatically. Once I come back to the computer and close X1 the related service is still running. To stop it I have to use "Services.msc"
So that's what I'm looking for...a program that will stop the service when I close the related program.

It's a judgment call. I'd personally accept the very minor inconvenience you mention, in exchange for not having to mess-about with "Services.msc" or the Registry. Most everything is only a few clicks away in those Administrative tools from ex-Sys Internals.

There a many programs that will start/stop programs from running at start-up but services are different. Services usually have three start states when the computer boots up. They three states are "Automatic", "Manual" and "Disabled". If your service is set to "Automatic" the service starts when you boot up your computer. If the service is set to "Manual" it will only start when you start the related program and if "Disabled" the service will never start.
A lot of programs that you download onto your computer will install a new service or services so that program can run. Usually they are installed as "Automatic". If you only use a program say once a week then why have the service running for all that time when you don't need it running. If the service is marked "Manual" then it will only start when you run the program but when you are finished using said program and close it the service does NOT stop running.
I'm looking for a program that will stop the services marked "Manual" (that have started because I ran the related program) once I finish or close that program.

Thanks for all the feedback to-date.

But it's not freeware, is it?
And this issue seems to be about services.

In the left hand column, click on "Freeware"....from there you should be able to see by clicking on the 'blue services' word link a screenshot that shows how it addresses "services"
