Wondershare Music Converter was free  MAY 14, ONLY - on Give Away Of The Day (GAOTD)

Frustrated by those crippling DRM restrictions? Want to play the stuff you paid good money for wherever you choose?

Today's time-limited offer from GAOTD may help you.

Wondershare is a reputable maker of good, user friendly commercial software and I generally like their programs.

Developer's feature description:

* Remove DRM protection from audio of WMV, WMA, M4P, M4B, AAC, M4V, M4A etc.
* Convert both unprotected & DRM protected music to popular audio formats including M4A, MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, AAC, AC3, APE, MKA.
* Extract audio from video even high definition video to audio M4A, MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, AAC, AC3, APE, and MKA.
* Fully support all common players including iPod, iPhone, PSP, Zune, BlackBerry, Creative Zen, Archos, and Walkman etc.
* This DRM Media Converter supports parallel conversion which allows you to convert at most 5 DRM files at the same time at turbo-speed.
* This DRM Music Converter performs as a quick DRM file Finder by smart importing DRM files which enable you to locate and load converted and unconverted DRM files in an easy way.
* This DRM Music Converter allows you to customize the output effect, such as the sound channel, file size, picture definition, screen size, etc, which enables you to configure the optimal conversion for every need.

NOTE: legality considerations regarding removal of DRM vary from country to country. Give Away of the Day is making this time-limited offer internationally - it's the users' responsibility to abide by local laws.

If you decide to install and activate:

Unzip the downloaded folder and briefly consult the readme file. When installing, follow the installation wizard instructions carefully. You may be required to give user permission to install the drivers - that's OK. Reboot after activating the program (via internet).  If you get a message saying that a driver hasn't installed properly, it's probably worth trying again - you may find you need to disconnect from the internet and temporarily disable your firewall while installing.

I prefer to use MelodyCan converter. Works on Vista perfectly.

I like MuvAudio better. I have been using it for a while now and it work flawlessly with my DRM music. Want a hint? Get a "all you can eat Napster account" and then download as much as you desire then make it "DRM'less" with MuvAudio. All the music in the world.. none of the fuss.

not really free, only a trial

It's actually a time limited offer of a commercial $ware program (rater than a trial).

As with nearly all GAOTD offers:
- There's a 24 hour time window to download, install and activate the program
- You get no free updates or support
- You can't reinstall the program (eg if you need to rebuild your system)

I think it's legal because it's not actually stripping DRM at all. The original music "data" is just like it was before you ran the software.

It's playing the music (etc) and recording the output, much like you do if you were to put a tape recorder in front of the television set and record what comes out of the speakers. See?

Of course it's all done behind the scene but that's how it's done or at least how it SHOULD be done to get around the DRM restrictions.

That's why Apple and SONY doesn't come down upon them with their lawyers.

Gizmo, my two cents.

Peace out!!

As I understand it - as a complete layman, and therefore hardly at all - the legal implications differ from country to country. I imagine Wondershare have checked pretty carefully that they're not legally liable for distributing this software.

I kind of suspect the developers are covered because they're not the ones who are actually removing the DRM. That's the end users. Who need to be aware of legislation in force wherever they happen to be.

On Vista I found I had to disable my Comodo firewall (after disconnecting from internet of course!) in order to get the drivers to install properly.
