Remarkable Encyclopedia of Life
Imagine an electronic page for each species or organism on Earth. This site is making it happen.
The Encyclopedia of Life is an online reference and database that will eventually include all 1.8 million species currently known to science.
While not complete, the Encyclopedia of Life has done an impressive amount of work creating an electronic page for each species or organism on Earth.
The Encyclopedia of Life is being developed to serve as a far-reaching, global resource for anyone interested in Earth’s species.
Its being developed (and used) by scientists, teachers, students, media, families, artists and one else interested in the project. EOL will be made available in a wide range of languages - at present it is available in English, French, Dutch, Russian, and Spanish.
A good place to start is a quick look at the How To Use EOL section in the FAQ's, or, you can watch the Home page change images and descriptions until something interesting appears.
There is no need to register to use the site unless you wish to be considered for curator privileges.
Members of Flickr, Yahoo, SmugMug, Blogger, AOL users and anyone with an OpenID account can use their accounts to log in to EOL.
All content is currently using Creative Commons licenses. If you want to reuse anything on the site its a good idea to have a look at the (generous) terms of use.
