problem with hyperlinks in some newsletters

I receive several newsletters like CNET. When I click on the links in the newsletter I often receive \the message: "Failed to Connect" Firefox Cannot establish a connection at blank.blank.net" Any suggestions?

Don this is a common problem that can have multiple causes.

1. The most common cause is email clients that cannot properly handle links in email, particularly links that create a new window or tab. Incredimail is a prime culprit.

The best bet is to swap to a new email client such as Thunderbird.

In the case of Support Alert newsletter an alternative I usually suggest to subscribers who encounter this problem that they read the issue online in their browser. The links then will work fine.

2. Another cause is a broken connection in Windows between email links and the program that handles the links. The easiest solution here is to reinstall Internet Explorer or Firefox and this will rebuild the connection.

There are many other more obscure causes but the two above cover about 95% of the cases.

I did everything I saw in various forums. Then I began to suspect avast! antivirus. Their techie did answer me but made the usual suggestions. I uninstalled avast! and downloaded the latest version of AVG. Somewhere during that whole process the links magically started to work again. They have been fine ever since.

Thanks for your input.
