Hi all just had a interesting thing happen when I clicked on a link. I started out in the "Probably the Best Free Security List in the World" and clicked on http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/probably-best-free-security-list-world.htm?page=0,12
The Ip-Blocking/Hardening category I went to try out Sendori and the page loaded just fine until I tried to download it. I got a blocked alert for avira web protection said sendori is malware and then a few seconds later avira blocked the change of my host file. Thats not good and glad I decided to switch to avira. Just wanted to let everyone know I don't believe it to be a false positive since right after it tried to change my host file. I have Online armor free and avira free and I'm happy to say they work well. I use wireless data stick to access the internet so I was looking for a alternative dns that had a updater and software that would change my dns for me since its sorta like dial up broadband with a data stick any suggestions?? I would use opendns but it will not add my ip for some reason its restricted and I'm not able to do anything... I have the option to change from a dial up wireless modem to using it as a WAN just have to make changes to the tcp connection speed and just didn't want to go through all that. Is mailshield any good? Sendori was blocked for malware I might just stick with my ISP/Cell company.
Yes. The program is definitely legitimate. There has been heuristic "detection", probably due to packing or behavior.
false positive from avira I take it... I don't know I keep scanning with hitman pro and it keeps finding a proxy installed and I'm not using a proxy I remove it but it keep coming back. I don't know whats up its posible that there was code injected into my download it was fine after if it is indeed a safe application. I have used it before and know that its provided by DynDNS and they are great... I don't for the life of me understand why the proxy keeps coming back... Is it possible my system is being targeted? When I remove the proxy my internet speed increases and I scan each time it tends to slow down I believe its due to that vulnerability that I've read recently just want to check as I'm no expert.
It's important to understand just how Sendori works.
"Sendori will update your computer's DNS settings to protect you from the latest threats, including viruses, worms, and zero-day vulnerabilities".
As you can see, the VirusTotal scan returns just 1/41 and this is one of those crazy "reputation" detections from Symantec.

The alert could have been because of the nature of the program (although not according to the AntiVir scanner used by VT), or something on the page you were downloading from, or a wrapped installer.

Any comments on ZoneAlarm free Antivirus+Firewall or anyone else having any issues?
I've been using in now since it came out and find that the download/web protection or browser protection keeps crashing and zonealarm keeps displaying a pop up to report the error, I get to send one report per day and then each pop up after that tells me I should only send one report a day.
I might just decide to leave it till they fix what ever issues they are having and give it time to grow a bit. I'm just wondering what to use open to suggestions I have a 64bit system with windows 7 so I'm more limited in my choices... Is Roboscan any good is it worth trying out?
I'd like to hear how Roboscan has been as well as anyone else using Zonealarm free antivirus+ firewall...
Everything ZoneAlarm seems infected with bugs at the moment. IMO if you're looking for a suite then this is miles better all round, especially the firewall.
http://free.agnitum.com/
MC, how effective is the AV component of this suite and can you provide any links to testing of it? Thank You
This is where the minefield opens up. You can look at several different tests and see the same number of results, i.e. different :D Then you have to ask yourself just how relevant these results might be to your own real life PC usage? I find the best way to approach this is to accept in advance that no antivirus is going to give you better than 95% and so take some steps to help it out with say a more secure DNS service and a site ratings agent like WOT (Web Of Trust). In strict terms, the AV engine used by Agnitum is not in the top sphere (of tests), but then this includes a firewall with a top class HIPS component. Putting it another way, I was recommending (what was then) FortiClient Standard to folks when its "test" performance was way below that now being achieved by the new version and no one got infected.
Above all, resist the temptation to be swayed by anything you see in a magazine or on Youtube, and you can't go far wrong. :)
I switched over to Roboscan and it found something hidden in my system which was nice so I can't knock it Zonealarm free AV+firewall let something on my system so it appears. I've been with Agnitum before and had no issues with using it just wasn't really sure of VirusBuster but apparently its a solid AV might not be the best but the firewall and hips like you said makes up for that... Going to try Roboscan out for a bit I like that its Duel engines and has bitdefender engine as well as AlyAC's engine. Seems light enough but with my Intel Core i7 and 8gb ram I'm able to run just about anything without too much issues. I appreciate your comments and thank you for the quick response... I just wish outpost had a android security app I like to keep my smartphone and computer using similar products... I'm not a fan of lookout I really hope I never lose my phone cause I'll have 2200Meters to search lol... Thanks lookout appreciated hope I don't get arrested searching random homes lol... I tend to be sarcastic rather then judgmental. So right now my setup is RoboScan for computer and ALyAC for andorid seems to run smooth on both no issues and they both found 1 piece of malware right away which is nice... I like bitdefender and one of the reasons why I'm trusting those engines is that they are duel so bitdefender should catch something and handle it if need be...

Flame(r)/sKyWIper spy tool - new Stuxnet-like malware
http://certcc.ir/index.php?name=news&file=article&sid=1894

sKyWIper malware is the same as “Flame” http://www.crysys.hu/
Kaspersky:"Flame can easily be described as one of the most complex threats ever discovered. It’s big and incredibly sophisticated. It pretty much redefines the notion of cyberwar and cyberespionage...Flame is a sophisticated attack toolkit, which is a lot more complex than Duqu. It is a backdoor, a Trojan, and it has worm-like features, allowing it to replicate in a local network and on removable media if it is commanded so by its master. "

Interesting stuff.
I want to thank my co-author vodomar for the fantastic work he is doing by editing and improving this list!
I'll join in with that! :) Needs a special kind of dedication to maintain a megalist like this.
ThX guys :)
I'd also like to say all you guys have been doing a great job maintaining this site and keeping up with just about everything that comes up with little to no delay. I am a long time fan, I can't praise this forum enough for all the help it has provided me over the years. I've recommended this site to friends and family alike as the *{(GoTo)}* site for any issues or info they might need or encounter. I'd also like to add as a long time fan that editors have come and gone and have always been top notch in my book but vodomar is by far the best you guys have had in a long time and he's doing a great job very helpful with all posts. I have noticed over the last 5-6 years that its only been getting better so here is to the next 10 years you guys rock and we all appreciate your effort.

AV-TEST March/April 2012: 22 home user products reviewed, only 20 got certified
http://www.av-test.org/en/tests/home-user/marapr-2012/
I switched from Avast! free to this as a result of reading the comments and the av-test results. Breadth of protection is not as good as Avast! (is it even running - downloading/installing VERY unusual software and nothing checks?), configuring it to ignore certain folders during a scan is impossible. I shall be ditching this tomorrow. It may be good at repairing/removing viruses but it doesn't appear to be able to warn/block in advance of a possible infection.
Well, unlike Avast, there is no sandbox in AVG. But it is just a nuisance for the average user.
I think there is now enough statistics to change my free AV choice to AVG :-)
Thanks. Good result for AVG Free.

MSE has also updated to version 4.0.1526.0 I think that's cool not sure guess no one really give it much attention. I'm happy with it going to be using the new version. They changed the background again this time and make a few adjustments its worth looking at though.
Yep, that's update is from Friday... I'm just confused from their vision about updates... That's the only AV which treats definitions updates like "optional"(?!) I have tried this program many times on both my home desktops (XP Pro SP3 & Vista Ultimate SP2) and I have always had problems with updates... Sometimes the definitions are almost 3 days old and the tray icon just shines green and the programs tells you - "You are safe, I'm up to date, be happy..." (?!) Moreover its results from independent labs are varying... :-/
MSE has gone down so much I hesitate to install it on my friends machines today. Hopefully they will start working on it again.
