ALERT

Microsoft Releases Security Advisory 2757760

Today we released Security Advisory 2757760 to address an issue that affects Internet Explorer 9 and earlier versions if a user views a website hosting malicious code. Internet Explorer 10 is not affected.

Critical zero-day bug in Internet Explorer under active attack

This is something MS users should be aware of in relation to this latest exploit.

"Even when people don't actively use IE, many utilities and third-party applications make use of IE code. That opens the possibility that people on public WiFi systems and other unsecured networks could inject malicious code into a victim's Web traffic in an attempt to exploit the vulnerability.

"Just keep in mind that even if you don't use IE for day-to-day browsing, a lot of tools you use do embed IE and those are vulnerable," Moore said."

#Flame was just one of the four malwares known to the C&C servers, codenamed: SP, SPE, FL and IP. Guess which one was Flame?

http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/top-freeware-picks-category-editors.htm, Page 4, fifth item, you list Best Free File Encryption Utility for Windows - TrueCrypt. Yet, on this very list, , you list TrueCrypt in the Encrypting with virtual drives (category 19.7).
To me and most other encryption software users, a file encryption utility _and_ virtual encrypted drive software are completely different. I completely agree with placing TrueCrypt in the Encrypting with virtual drives category, like you have done here, no argument at all.

I only ask that you (or the proper category editor) select a NEW and proper file encryption utility from category 19.3 as your top pick. You misinterpret TrueCrypt for its correct usage. Pick something else for Best Free File Encryption Utility for Windows.

Good to see my choice (Zone Alarm Free Antivirus + Firewal) getting a top score and the free version of AVG scoring the same for protection as the paid suite.

Hi Ako,

I notice SecurityKISS VPN listed in the Prisoners on remand section, could I ask why?

The reason I ask is because I had looked into using a vpn some time ago, and SecurityKISS didn't look too bad a choice. Did I miss something?

Thanks,
Terry.

The free version is too limited to be useful. Has this changed?

by "joe" (not verified) on 9. September 2012 - 0:45  (98973)

huh. i was thinking of using it too.
how is it too limited?

by ako (the) (not verified) on 9. September 2012 - 8:25  (98984)

The number of megabytes per day was very small when I last time checked it.

by vodomar on 9. September 2012 - 13:22  (98990)

Developers page listed on Softpedia returnms a 404. What else I can find has highly dubious origins. I'd be well inclined to give this one a miss. :)

by Anupam on 3. September 2012 - 12:28  (98693)

It's actually a mistake in the link if you look closely. Anyways, even with the correct link, the antivirus is not there. After searching on Google, I found this link :

http://sdfreeware.weebly.com/

Will be interesting to see what this develops into.
The developer seems to be from Sri Lanka.

by MidnightCowboy on 3. September 2012 - 12:43  (98695)

With links to known attack and red rated WOT sites from that page, as I said, highly dubious origins :)
