25. My choices

Ako's current choices for protection

Free setup  for my friends and relatives. Here robustness and simplicity are as important as efficiency of protection:

  • Avast
  • Windows firewall
  • Panda USB vaccine
  • LUA

My personal setup

  • LUA+TweakUAC
  • Sandboxie $
  • F-Secure client security $
  • Winpatrol Plus $
  • No Autorun

Scanners:

  • Hitman Pro
  • Malwarebytes Antimalware

Backup:

  • Syncback
  • Paragon
  • Windows 7 built-in backup

Other security-related programs I use:

  • Secunia PSI
  • Virustotal Uploader

Ako's banking advice

1) Use one LUA for ALL everyday use and make another LUA which is used ONLY for banking. The point is, that if the everyday LUA is infected, the infection is almost always limited to that account. (99% safety guaranteed. This of course requires, that  you are not yet infected, and don't install malware with adminstrative rights in the future.)

and/or

2) Use one browser only for banking and a separate browser for everything else. This gives some extra safety.

AdBan
"AdBan becomes paid starting from 2011-06-01 00:42:42"
"First of all pay attention that all AdBan instances installed before 2011-06-01 00:42:42 remain free!"

by ako (the) (not verified) on 27. June 2011 - 18:14  (74414)

Can anyone from our site answer this? I cannot.

by ako on 27. June 2011 - 19:06  (74421)

thanks

Please post this query in the editor's support forum. Jojo for one will know the answer and be able to advise if it's feasible and/or desirable for your page.

Out of context.

As I wrote here: https://www.techsupportalert.com/content/probably-best-free-security-list-world.htm#comment-73903

Ad-Ban is now nagware

If you had read the actual page and not just the headline you would have seen this: "What happens after the free trial is over?
AdBan will continue working, but it will preiodically [sic] open a pop-up with the buy page."

Another suggestion for the editor's support forum:

Have a log file for each article (especially this one) so peeps can quickly see what is in the latest update.

Does not need to be kept/maintained beyond the latest update.

by J_L on 29. June 2011 - 23:53  (74536)

It's already there in What's New.

by J_L on 29. June 2011 - 23:55  (74537)

Thanks, I've found the correct link for Svchost Process Analyzer.

"Win7 inbuild drive imaging"
Inbuilt*
"Versatile monitoring and maintainace tool"
Not how you spell maintenance

Also, InmunOS hasn't been updated for ages

Thanks, English isn't ako's first language, or mine.

I usually avoid such software when there are plenty of alternatives, but this isn't the case.

by Anonymous23 (not verified) on 12. July 2011 - 14:07  (75302)

English isn't my first language either, doesn't mean spell checking doesn't work in the browser though

Also: are there any good alternatives to icore virtual accounts yet? Because the current ones are crap. I want isolated accounts, not rollback software

by J_L on 13. July 2011 - 3:02  (75353)

It doesn't work that well on this article. It can't detect everything, nor can 2 people.

What about MojoPac?

by ako on 14. July 2011 - 11:25  (75462)

Nice hint, but I do not think it is apppropriete to add it to the list. Also, they can whatever time change the logic.

by ako on 14. July 2011 - 11:26  (75463)

Tx! All files are "not rated". Usefulness?

by ako on 14. July 2011 - 11:27  (75464)

Tx! I think this kind of tests are too spesific and not useful long.

by vodomar on 14. July 2011 - 16:48  (75487)

by ako on 14. July 2011 - 19:38  (75496)

7.7 Dvd Repair

Dead link: http://www.rizone3.com/archives/93

New link: http://www.rizonesoft.com/2011/do-not-panic/

In addiction IMHO it should be under "20.21. Restore Corrupted Folder Options and Advanced Settings".
