Create a Live Web Page from Scratch in Seconds, via Email
Posterous (http://www.posterous.com) is almost certainly the quickest way to create a web page and get it online. Post a simple text message, or include additional content such as an MP3 file or a picture. Unlike traditional blogging and publishing services, such as Blogger or MySpace, you don't even need to sign up for an account. Just think of something to say, then email it to post@posterous.com. Within a few seconds, you'll get back a reply telling you the address of your published page. Click on the link, and it's there for you (and the world) to see.
It really is that easy. Web publishing doesn't get easier, or quicker, than this. If you want to show your holiday snaps to family or colleagues, or publish the agenda for your next club meeting, this is the simplest way to do it.
Initially your published page will be given a unique URL, albeit not a particularly friendly or memorable one. When I tried the service, my submitted page ended up as http://robert-upptp.posterous.com. But no problem. Just view the page and click on the button to "claim the account". You can then change the name (the bit before @posterous.com) to anything you like, so long as it isn't taken already. And of course you can assign a password to the account too, so no one else can continue contributing to it.
Posterous is clearly no substitute for a full-featured web publishing system like Drupal, Joomla or WordPress. But nothing compares to it for speed. In the time it takes to send an email, you could publish your message as a web page instead.
There are plenty of free places that you can publish content on the web. Blogger, WordPress.com, MySpace, Facebook, and plenty more. But for sheer simplicity, Posterous is definitely worth a look. Even your grandmother could use it.
System requirements: Any computer with internet access and a web browser.
Download file size: None.

Customer service at Posterous is lousy.I thought that this was a really great find. So good that I decided to import my blog posts into it. Well that bit doesn't work for me not when I tried it in three browsers and from the two sites I have my blogs on.
I contacted customer service twice but they didn't reply. So for more than a simple send-and-publish, I wouldn't recommend Posterous as there is no help for problems.
Posterous is so simple that is perfect.
I really recommend it.
Robert: Do you know whether you can go back to the page and alt tag the photo?
Having browsed quite a few Posterous sites (try adding inurl:posterous to a google search) it would appear not. I can't find any sites where the images have alt tags.
Couldn't get any links on the site to load. Not even with IE. Don't know why, surly not my settings but oh well, no big loss.
What a cool find! Thanks so much for posting it Robert. The eggs are amazing! If I didn't know better I'd say they'd been dipped in the dye-pot. That sad conclusion is the result of too many years spent shopping at the supermarket and away from the wonders of nature.
As for Posterous, apparently you get up to a gig of space free and if you want more it looks like they'll be offering Premium subscriptions once they gather up a reasonably large fanbase of supporters. They seem to be implementing services and features quite cleverly and in a very user-friendly way, which should appeal to lots of folk.
PS. What does Posterous mean? Preposterous is, well, preposterous. Posterous or Post2us, or PostToUs..... hmmm, this has got me thinkin
Hi. Almost as fast (or faster?) is www.jottit.com. Navigate to that URL, enter or paste text and click 'Create Site' and voilà! You can do simple formatting, page titling, URL changing if you wish

That was even easier than Posterous. Thanks!
This is eggsactly what I've been looking for...thankyou.
Thanks, all. Glad you liked this Hot Find. Watch this space for loads of new finds, coming soon!
And yes, the eggs really are from the chickens that my wife and I keep. Not all breeds of hen produce boring white or brown eggs, as you can see.
Robert
Thanks for Posterous, I think this is one website I could manage. Do the eggs actually taste any different?
Wow! Nice eggs!
Thanks, I love u Gizmo! Im a computer teacher but i took 20 years and a letter from Gizmo to publish a page in internet...
"... But for sheer simplicity, Posterous is definitely worth a look. Even your grandmother could use it."
Grandmother, maybe, but what about a caveman?
A good explanation of what posterous is all about.
I have two posterous blogs that I publish to, one for my creative writing efforts, and one for anything I find interesting and want to share.
A feature I really like is that you can auto-post to Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, etc., with an easy setup.
I have used this site as a linked blog from my main site. As you can access the CSS data I have made the font and color scheme match the main site so that it seems part of the main site. The latest edit options means to you can place the pictures where you want within the text. Really a very good simple blog site.
Awesome - just what I needed!
Thanks, r.schifreen!
nice!!! Wordpress does do an awesome job though. say there are three levels of complexity, wordpress are the top two and posterous is the easiest.
Easy:
Posterous
Medium:
Wordpress.COM
Above average:
Wordpress.ORG
Thanks! What a great find! :)
