Port Forward
Hi using verizon dsl with a westell modem A9 750015 07 with w98se can any one provide me with simple instructions to port forward with utorrent as a new rule . . .
I am lost when in come s to the numbers the verizon wants from me; global start \ global end \ base direction \ port heading \ port direction and what whatever comes up next after clicking forword i am clueless as to what numbers to use and what goes where i am so lost and tired of the red icon and want to get it green. Do you have nice simple instructions with the correct numbers that i can use and end the mess ! ? Thanks a bunch . . .
P>S> already tryed portforward they were of no help and my westell isn t there and their request feature doesn t work so lets forget that - thanks again . . .

Wow....here it is six months or more...hell a year....and we are all still having portforwarding problems with Verizon...they use the Westells...I have 3...don't know which is the best and I don't need wireless service...saving up for a laptop...anyway...using portforward .com and u Torrent's Portchecker, I still have no more than 20kbps on a 3Mbps service...WTH is going on and their directions are not in the Verizon format...but the westell format and they are not worded the same....UUUUUUgh...and they will charge you for their program...which isn't guaranteed to work at alll.....and Verizon's people go deaf dumb and blind and send you off to pay money with their tech's~!!! and they charge more than pcConfig.pcportforward...or whatever the hell we get hold of for help....and I am dl'ng 11Gig!!!!!
Yeah the guides at portforward are not going to help much as Verizon has their own set up for those.
These forums are now closed. If you want some further help please post in our new Forums
If you do post, please give the make and model modem you are using. I usually can find info from someone (a Verizon customer) who has figured it.

Ok here goes, i ve gotten into the westell network setting and so far i think these may be correct but not sure!?
1) Enter name = utorrent
2) Port for trigger- no idea
3) Protocol - tcp / udp or both = both right ?
4) Global Portstart 35200 ?
5) Global Portend 35200 ?
6) Base port host- no idea
7) Direction = in
8) Direction = out
OK so i need numbers for the above missing settings and hope thats it . . and have i missed anything ! ?
byee thats a bunch
Hey, I'm having the same problem. I googled "port forwarding on westell router" and did not find any help. Did you ever get your ports forwarded? If so, how?
1, 4, 5, 7 & 8 look OK.
3. both
6. 35200
I am not sure about 2. You did select forwarding not triggering didn't you?
Keroff - thanks for the help, no haven t tryed again yet already tryed 2x and had to re set my account and call them up for help yuk no hurry to foul up again.
As for number two i am clueless hopefully some else here knows the correct choice.
As for port 35200 i choose it out of the blue, easy to remember- i see no clues as to what number is best, i assume some numbers are faked and some don t even work, so if i foul up and lose the home page what then sheeeech ! ?
thanks a bunch - i do need the help . . .
The guide talks about using a port number between 49152-65534, but I checked and 35200 is OK as it is not used by any other program.
You must have 35200 as your port in uTorrent.
Did the manual I linked match the screens you are seeing. Are you seeing this

Yes i have the same image and i can get into it, but i see the middle three in that row have 2 numbers but i need all 5 right 35200 and other numbers are blocked right or bad right !? ok i ll try then them soon and hope nothing goes wrong again. As for my last problem number two still not sure what the right answer is and in no hurry to crash n burn again, guess i ll wait a bit hope someone has the answer or i ll call verizon again and harass umn amazing how helpless they are ! oh i don t need and static ip addys etc junk like that right ! ?
Thanks again and byee - -
The 35200 is one port number. You can use it because it will not conflict with another program and is unlikely to be blocked by your ISP. It is a 5 digit number, not 5 numbers. The number 35200 should be set as your uTorrent port (see my uTorrent guide here) and it should go in the Global port start, global port end and Base Hostport for your modem.
Your number 2 question does not match what is in the image. You need to tick the radio button for "port forwarding" and not for "port triggering"
You need to allow both TCP and UDP and both incoming and outgoing.
As far as static IP, these are the guides for the different operating systems:
http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm
Ok yes number 2 opps it is port forword as for static ip don t see that i need that but i feel i in way over my head and fearful of ips crash again oh well guess i take a break- no matter what i try i can t get my utorrent speed above 40/50 kps so bloody slow and the icon is always yellow and never even green as it should be oh well its never easy - need to find my lost courage to try again soon hoping to d/l a biggy torent 4.6 gigs if i can find some speed right now that d/l would take 48 hours - yuk - byee for now . .
You might try contacting the ISP and asking them for info as it is their modem.
If they give you any grief for using bittorrent, let them know you are using it for legal downloads at sites like this:

Ok got into Portforward today and placed the port number 35200 in the right slots and had fingers crossed and nothing happened, the bloody icon is still yellow and never green but i did notice that the slot that needs to be out was grayed out which froze in DSL any idea how i fix that, get it into " Out " ! ?
Thanks a bunch . . .
Still here and still can t portforward but ill keep trying - spunked
I took a look through the manual that I linked to below and to get to the options you need to enter http://192.168.1.1 in your browser address.
You should then see a sign-in page and the default user name is "admin" and the default password is "password" (both without quotes).
Then the info on page 109 of the manual should work.
The Global Port Start and Global Port End and Base Host Port values should all be your uTorrent port number.
Steve
Spunked here - i see you have a guide posted here "Opitimizing u torrent for speed " i assume the boxs checked and unchecked and the numbers posted are what we should use; but i have w98se so how would those settings change for me i assume they would - byeee
The operating system would not make a difference for the options listed there. You do not use the numbers posted though. You have to take the speed test, run the calculator and determine what numbers are right for your internet connection and then enter those.
Also, I posted on your router on your other post-someone else who had it lays out what to do and I linked to their advice.
Sorry, but I did not see these posts until today.
Steve
Spunked here, i did find that users guide after much hunting about and tryed twice to get port forward to work and wound up losing my dsl account and had to re install my account that was fun - not . .
portforward.com does not list my router. .
i guess my only fix is to use the phone book and find a port forward teckie and have him come over - sheech - bye for now . . .
Nothing is there to help me , why is nothing ever easy guess i ll have to thumb though the phone book and get some pc geek over here, can t find and numbers and i am clueless - byeee for now . .
Sorry, I have had electric issues and have not been online.
I did a search on your model number, but the only page that came up was this page.
This is a link to the manual for the Westell 7500 model, hopefully it will help:
http://onlinehelp.verizon.net/consumer/bin/pdf/versalink7500userguide.pd...
I know from other Westell modems that the global start, global end and base host are set to the same number, which is the port you have set for uTorrent.
I am not sure about port direction as I do not see that on the other Westell modems. However, communications should be allowed in both in and out and on TCP and UDP.
Look under Westell under - http://portforward.com/routers.htm
It should be there and you should be able to get assistance there.
