This Photo Enhancing App Is Getting Rave Reviews
Some people prefer their digital photos to remain au naturel. Just as nature (and the camera) intended.
If you fall into the other camp, however, and you like experimenting with post-production techniques to enhance the colour or lighting in your pictures, you'll be aware of various techniques such as HDR (High Dynamic Range).
Oloneo PhotoEngine is a new program that allows you to adjust all aspects of a picture and its lighting. You can take individual light sources in your picture and make them brighter or dimmer, or even turn them off completely. I'm no photography expert, but the power of this program, and the way in which it's so easy to use, certainly impressed me. And from reading the postings in the company's support forum, it appears that many other people also think it's amazing.
At present, Photo Engine is in beta. It's a free download, which expires in October. As yet, there's no word on how much the finished version will cost, though it won't be free. So if you have some pictures that you want to experiment with, now is the time to download it and start playing.
To run Photo Engine you'll need Windows XP SP3 or above. The download is 18 MB, and there are 32 and 64 bit versions available.
Check it out for yourself at www.oloneo.com. And my thanks go to user liziris for alerting me to this great find.

wow I cant believe people are complaining because its not free forever. its still free right now
This program wants to act as a server.. why? as it only works on your own photos and refusing to allow it server access just bombs out. thanks but no thanks!
Well, no, it is not free because it requires some form of information be given to the download site. Perhaps that price is small. But it invalidates the term 'free' as an identifier for the offer -- may all advertisers and their redefinition of the term be refused.
Nice!
Thanks.......
it's a beta try out, still free to try but not free in the future :)
I've tried it immediately after I read the news on dpreview (about 2 months ago).
I'm not a fan of HDR photos so it's not for me. But I agree the ReLight feature is nice.
This program is not freeware - boo
Thumbs down for this review. I find myself doing this a lot with your reviews.
I have played around with this program and it is a game changer. It does things that Photoshop will not do. It also supports HDR imagery at a new level of sophistication. Any serious photographer who does not try this software will lose out to those that do. It is a must have program.

Question is, does it qualify as a free app if it's only a time limited beta that's free?
Not all of our freebies are free forever. If there are time-limited offers which we think will be of interest, we make it perfectly clear that this is the case. Such as the recent 24-hour antivirus download window. I did point out in my review of Photo Engine that, if there are pictures you want to try it with, you should start doing so now, before the beta expires.
If you would rather not use this free program, simply because it won't be free forever, then that's fine. Other people look on this as an opportunity.
No. It is not a time-limited offer. It is time-limited software. Very big difference. No one calls that freeware. It is a free trial.
It's not a case of "not being free for ever" as you put it. I do not share that expectation of any software reviewed on TSA.
