optical drive not detecting media sometimes

hi '

i have a compaq presario pc.It has been giving a strange problem for the last couple of days. The problem is it won't detect some cd or dvd's although they are perfectly fine and would work perfectly in my friends comp(he has an lg optical drive). Its not like it isn't detecting any media but sometimes it would just refuse to read some cd/dvd's.I have already updated my drivers.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually this is not the problem i am facing.According to the link given it says,

"After you remove a CD or DVD burning program from your computer, the CD drive or the DVD drive no longer appears in the My Computer window. You might also receive an error message when you try to access the drive.

This problem is caused by two Windows registry entries that have become corrupted. "

It does not show me any error message. The problem is sometimes when there is a
cd/dvd in the drive it does not detect it and when u double click the cd drive to open, it opens a blank window as if u have not inserted any media.
