I have Vista SP2, 32bit, 1.467 Duo-core, 2GB Ram on a Gateway Laptop.
I tried it... It is REALLY,... REALLY.... GOOD software......
BUT..........., after 1&1/2 days,... I found out that.... IT.... was the culprit for S-L-O-W-I-N-G ... D-O-W-N... my computer,....
SOOOOOOOO,...... Even though it is a REALLY great piece of software,...
I DUMPED IT!

I now have (My Computer has.),... my "PEP" BACK.
I wish EVERYONE else the best of luck with it!
Is it slowing down everyone's computer,... or just mine? ? ?

Hi all

Am I better off with Avast free and PC tools firewall free then with OA++

Please let me know I am on Vista 1 GB so need a easy on memory solution.

Thanks

by DLC50 on Mon, 02/01/2010 - 16:00  (#42554)

I really like the new Avast Free but I have never liked PC Tools but its all about preference. Both will offer great protection so just use whichever one you prefer.

by DLC50 on Sun, 01/31/2010 - 17:01  (#42476)

Well it runs great on mine. Can't even tell its there.

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 21:37  (#42382)

trying to download but firefox won't do it is this because of overdownloading from there website

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 22:52  (#42386)

Same here.

No problem getting registration key, but unable to download after several attempts.

Is there really a 24 limit for installation, or can one download later when the server becomes less busy?

by DLC50 on Sat, 01/30/2010 - 01:14  (#42392)

Hey you can download it from Giveaway of the day and the Tall Emu site so if one is not working you should try the other.

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 10:52  (#42338)

It is a very good security suit but I is a bit confusing at the start but I got used to it. My interpretation of the program is "Brilliant!". I went on to malwaredomainlists and it blocked all of them. It doesnt affect your CPU either!!! I only have 1GB of ram and a 2.1 AMD Sempron processor

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 11:38  (#42342)

I only have 1GB also does this is lighter on memory then what I have now PC tool fire wall and Avast ?

Thanks

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 10:39  (#42336)

This thing is da bom diggity. (As in very, very good!)

It uses A-Squared's AV but the interface is much better and the firewall rocks the house. Sweet.

By the way, with most Giveawayoftheday offerings you have to install within the 24 hours of the offering. With this you just have to get a license within that time (I think) and you can install it later (within 30 days, if I'm reading it correctly). The license (technically) lasts forever but upgrades last for a year. Since that's probably not a big deal for the firewall, basically the online armor firewall part is free forever.

Whatever you use now, you should definitely try this. Thus far, color me impressed. After trying just about everything, this is way, way better.

by DLC50 on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 07:21  (#42326)

Hey guys, I just wanted to let everyone know that Online Armor++ has On-Execution scanning, in stead of on access. This is not a big loss as no virus that the A2/Ikarus AV in Online Armor++ is able to detect will be able to execute. So no it will not detect it when you open the folder that the virus is in, but as soon as that virus tries to execute it will be terminated and quarantined. A lot of AV's have this feature in stead of On Access and a lot of people prefer it because it is lighter on the system.

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 10:43  (#42337)

A-Squared has a lot of false positives but it has an amazing detection rate as well.

As for on-access, to me that's a bad thing because if there IS a false positive in something like a download, the whole download gets trashed. On execution is all you need

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 03:08  (#42304)

also memory usage on my system seems to be very high might very well have realtime protection after all won't know until I test it on malwaredomainlist.com I'll post something here later and let you know if its worth keeping.

Is this better than Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2010?

by DLC50 on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 07:22  (#42327)

No it is definitely not better than KIS. KIS is a full suite and has a lot of features.

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 11:00  (#42339)

Compare the testing results for KIS and A-Squared. Compare the system impact of both. Compare the firewalls. Compare the scan speeds.

There isn't much comparison at all. OA++ kicks KIS' butt on all these things.

by Anonymous on Fri, 01/29/2010 - 03:06  (#42303)

In my opinion no its not better than Kaspersky. Kaspersky is actually a bit easier and I think a lot stronger. In my test so far I don't think the anti-virus has realtime capabilities I think its just a on demand scanner. Not a bad thing to have included with a firewall. It failed to detect anything in realtime when I right click on it and tell it to scan with online armor it detects the threat but opening a infected file didn't alert me to anything. I'm going to stick with avast 5 and use online armor++ as my firewall and on demand scan by a-squared and Ikarus engines is a good tool to have. Was kinda hoping it was a realtime scanner not on demand. Might even switch back to comodo since I've been happier with it and Online armor's drivers are not signed so I had to go through a few extra steps during the install which I didn't like. I think your better off with comodo Internet security even the Av is a lot better Only got 1 false positive on my system and have been running it for a while. Winpatrol was detected as suspicious and I had everything on high heuristics. I'm very happy with comodo so far to date think I'm going to let this offer pass. I'm not a fan of Mamutu or Online armor Premium which I had 1 year offer for free seems to be not my kinda product. They are decent but I'm leaning towards comodo wait till version 4 is out with sandbox and a few other features should be interesting to see. If you have kaspersky don't bother switching

Recommended Requirements
* Windows XP & Windows Vista & Windows 7
* 512 MB RAM
* 20 MB hard disk space
* Internet access
* Download Size: 10 mb
Compatibility
* Online Armor is not available for windows Vista 64 bit or Windows 7 64 bit..
This was copied from Tall Emu's site! Tell me something,, if you disable the antivirus wouldn't it be able to run on vista 64 since that is the biggest problem w/ this installation? since 64 can run 32 apps you shouldn't have a problem...

by DLC50 on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 19:18  (#42227)

No it would not work on x64 at all. The firewall is not compatible with 64 bit yet but a version is in development that will be compatible but I have no information as to when that might be available.

by Anonymous on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 16:34  (#42214)

64-bit operates differently on the kernel level. Sandboxie's website offers great info on why certain 32-bit security apps don't work on 64-bit OS's. Also, I've tried installing OA free on 64-bit Win7 just for fun and it wouldn't work.

by Anonymous on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 14:08  (#42208)

I am currently using Comodo and have not had any problems but, it does require a lot of interaction on my part. Would Online Armor be an improvement?

by DLC50 on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 19:40  (#42229)

I think by interaction you mean, a lot of popups or notifications. If so, this is most likely the Defense+ (HIPS) feature that is built in. Online Armor has a similar HIPS feature that is maybe a little less troublesome by default, but with Comodo I believe you can adjust the settings to where you will not see as many notifications. Another that will help you a lot with Comodo is to add the programs that you trust to the trusted vendors list, that way when one of those programs run D+ will not alert you because it is in the whitelist.

by MidnightCowboy on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 15:17  (#42211)

It would help if you could describe what you mean by "a lot of interaction".
I use Comodo myself with D+ at it's maximum settings and unless I'm installing new software I hardly notice that it's there.

by Anonymous on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 03:34  (#42174)

Ok, I was eye the up coming special for winpatrol at 99cents and now here's Online Armor++/ What's a simple minded bloke to do? Choose behind door A or B or both?

Sorry, but I'm just not real tech savvy. But wouldn't like to lose my work or have life go batcrap for some hours so give us a hand, please? thanks.

Note that on the website it says under the system requirements that the software is not suitable for 64 bit systems or Windows 98/ME.

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 14:22  (#42126)

I think this is the second time Giveawayoftheday.com giving away this free offer. Last Friday (25th)there was a same offer. Thanks for the info - JK@Techtrickz

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 15:18  (#42136)

Nope. About 5 months ago they gave away an earlier version that didn't work with Win 7.

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 13:46  (#42118)

Is it possible to install Online Armor+ without the antivirus?

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 20:45  (#42155)

Yes it is.

by DLC50 on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 18:27  (#42145)

I am not entirely sure about this. However, once installed you can easily disable the antivirus components.

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 13:29  (#42115)

Frankly, this is some real food for thought for me, so to speak. Because
a few days ago, I had a real nasty problem with a computer virus called
"Antvirus Live". What saved me from any further pain and anguish from
this virus was installing Avira AntiVir Personal. It wiped that thing
out and got me up and running again.

Now, I'm wondering if I should unintall Avira which seems to be an
excellent antivirus program for Online Armor++, which also seems to
be top notch.

I will say this, however, Online Armor++ sounds like a great deal/value.
Thanks so much for this great heads-up!

So let me see if I understand this correctly. When we download
& install this program, it'll be free for one year and a paid
subscription will be required if we would like to keep on using
it after that one year period has expired?

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 22:10  (#42165)

You don't have to uninstall Avira Personal. I have it on my computer with A squared and Online Armor.

by Anonymous on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 21:39  (#42294)

so basically online armour can be used along those two efficiently without any conlficts yes?

by Anonymous on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 15:15  (#42135)

First, A-Squared (the AV in this package) has the best detection rate of any in most testing that I've seen -- 99.7%+. It also has a fairly high false positive rate but it's very easy to undo a false positive (unlike Norton, for instance). Others have found A-Squared heavy on resources but it isn't in my systems.

Second, since late October, this will be the 4th free-for-a-year promotion that I've seen for it. It's safe to say that there will probably be more as they try to boost their market share and combat Microsoft's freebie.

One of the nice things about A-Squared is that you can keep your existing AV if you want, because it won't conflict with anything else...don't know why you'd want to do that but you don't *have* to uninstall avira.

by MidnightCowboy on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 18:36  (#42147)

It's a pretty fair guess that at least part of the reason behind these offers is to extend their database in readiness for when V5 of the Anti-Malware is released and then offer a 'preferential upgrade' to existing customers. As this new version will include an optional "on access" detection instead of just "on execution" it remains to be seen if it will still be compatible with a second resident AV.

I've added a note about the x64 bit compatibility to the article.
