New Free Webmail Service Aims To Deliver The Best Email Experience On The Web

**Update** Zenbe is no longer offering free email accounts.

Zenbe is free web based email that works with the email you already use, including POP mail, Gmail, Hotmail, AOL Mail and Yahoo mail.
(Note: at the time of this writing Hotmail and Yahoo mail do not allow POP3 access with basic accounts. Only premium accounts have POP3 access, which is needed to configure Zenbe to check email.)

Just out of beta, Zenbe offers loads of features, including email, an online calendar, mobile sync, and file sharing. Zen pages allow collaboration. It works with Facebook and Twitter.
I don't know of any other email client that allows you to use Twitter and check your Facebook updates while reading your email.

Your existing email accounts can be imported into a single Inbox.
Email isn't all that Zenbe has to offer. There's the beautiful interface, and along with that you get social media integration, integrated calendar (imports iCal format), to-do list, and contacts (can be imported).

You can send from any email address you have in Zenbe.
One limitation is the lack of IMAP support - there is some in place for mobile functions but full IMAP isn't available, yet. They are working on it.

Not enough? Ok. Zenbe allows you to stay organized with tags. Tags are like folders, only better. Its easy to tag anything in Zenbe, a feature I find very useful. It archives your email. The search feature is quite good, and there's a very good spam filter in place.

One of my favorite features is how Zenbe handles attachments.
It takes all your email attachments and puts them in their own separate tab. You can search, tag, add a star to them, or sort them by file type. Audio and video files can be played right in your browser, and images can be previewed in a neat lightbox.
Considering all the features that Zenbe offers, the interface is remarkably elegant and uncluttered. Icons are used for many settings, clicking on them brings up a menu.

Then there are Zenpages. Anything you would want to share in an email you share in Zen Pages - files, email, events. Its a good collaboration tool.
Zenbe regularly adds new features, so if there's something your missing, drop them a line.

It appears that Zenbe Mail is no longer offered as a free service.

Steve

Looks like they've gone to paid versions only.

GOOD

I don't use Hotmail or Yahoo, so I can't say if the information that Zenbe has in its FAQ's is accurate, but here it is anyway:

Does Zenbe work with Hotmail or Yahoo Mail?

Zenbe does work with Hotmail or Yahoo mail addresses if you have upgraded your account to enable POP or IMAP access. We plan on offering a better, free alternative for Hotmail and Yahoo users soon.

Zenbe has been actively developing the program, so its likely more support will show up - me, my mail is in Zenbe as well as Gmail. I'm waiting for IMAP access, which is being tested now.

I tried and discarded this application.
It would, or could, NOT handle either Hotmail or Yahoo.
My interest was occasioned by recurring problems with Poppeeper and ePrompter handling these.

I had exactly the same experience, and this software no longer resides on my computer either.

Although I love free software, I would also LOVE to see paid alternatives. Eg top editors picks of top paid software.
I assume this would be very difficult (and expensive) because there are so many categories and for each category probably several paid alternatives. But alot of software does have 30 day trails now so it could be possible.
While the aspect of just having free software is nice, sometimes people like myself wouldn't mind paying for the best software.

This is Gizmo's "FREEWARE". Not paid ware. If you want that, check out download.com or some other sites that do reviews of paid-for products. Geez ....
