New Desktop Search Tool...very fast!
Locate32 is a little known but highly impressive desktop search program. It works like updatedb and locate commands in Unix based systems. In other words, it uses databases to store information about directory structures and uses these databases in searches. The use of these databases provides very fast searching speed. It does not have all the features of the "big boys" (like searching within pdf files), but for something quick and unobtrusive, it's a good option.
The software includes a dialog based application as well as console programs which can be used to both update and access databases. Supported operation systems are Windows 98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/Vista.
Locate32 does NOT have to be running at all times like both Copernic and Google desktop. In my tests, it wasn't quite as fast as either of the above, but it is still quite fast. Plus, I really like not having to have it run all the time. Just remember to update the databases fairly regularly. Please note that finding words within files is somewhat difficult to find. At first, I didn't believe that it included this feature, but it is included. You just have to look to find the feature. Available in many languages.

locate32.net can not include any network mapped drives. I am checking the http://www.indexyourfiles.com/ and it looks so far so good :)
I have looked at the entire website and cannot find where IndexYourFiles allows searches within files. I believe you can only search by file name, not for words within files.
This is good too:

If your running XP but would like a Vista search box, this does a pretty good search ,speedly.

I don't see the difference. I use Copernic, but I leave it off most of the time and only run it occasionally to search or update the index. There is no such requirement to "be running at all times."
I use this all the time and love the speed.
I am confused..
Why is this being featured again?

This section is called "Hot Finds!". It's about software or products that we want to highlight or bring to people's attention. Not everyone checks all the new posts we put in a specific category. I did just update the Desktop Search category with this find. I just thought some people might be interested in a relatively obscure desktop search software and might not have looked at this category. Personally, while I like Google Desktop and Copernic, some people don't want something running the entire time taking up valuable resources. This software is somewhat unique in that it does index, but does not have to be running all the time if you don't want it to. For me, this was a "Hot Find!".
