Need help with Firefox

Hi, I would like to download Firefox but I don't know which one I should download for my Vista home premium 64 bit. On the Wiki website there are two.

The first listing is Firefox 3.1 and underneath it are listed two downloads. The same goes for Firefox 3.0 with two downloads listed undeneath it. Your help would be greatly appreciated if you could suggest the exact one I download. I have never had Firefox before so I want to make sure I download the right installer file. Also, should I just download it to my desktop and extract it there, then just double click to install. Thank you.

Merry Christmas

Hey - I'm and Opera fan I use it for my day to day stuff. It is fast, and it has some really nice features. I'm a big fan of the way it handles passwords.
But if I have any real heavy duty work to do I use Firefox. It just has more features.
And ad far as IE goes, it's on the machine - but - it's scary. Who knows what you can catch.
IF I had to chose one it would likely be Firefox. But then who's to say, I haven't used it much lately. I use Opera almost all of the time.
Maybe try both.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "wiki" website, but 3.1 is still in beta - so you want 3.05. If you go to www.mozilla.com you can download it there. Download the windows version and double click to install.

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried to download the windows version but could not and I assume it is because I have a 64 bit version of Vista. Here is where I found the information about wiki.

If you scroll down to "Browser" you will see the link there. If you would be kind enough to take a look at it and get back to me. Thank you.

Ah ok. The 64 bit version is still in development. The filename shows what stage it's in. For example:

Firefox-3.1b2pre.en-US.win64.installer.20081026.zip‎

Firefox 3.1, beta 2, pre-release - and the last numbers are the date (year, month, day).

I'd either download the 3.06pre version - the top file under 3.0, or I'd use the 32 bit version from www.mozilla.com

I tried Opera on your word. Oh boy!

Problems problems problems. A remarkable percentage of websites does not render correctly. It is unstable, crashing frequently. Surfing experience is slower even than IE. My PC got infected by an internet virus while trying it out, something that has NEVER happened to me before while using any other browser.

I'll wait a few years and try again.

Speaking as a long time Opera user, I doubt very much that your virus infection was anything to do with the fact you're using Opera rather than your regular browser. I would however be inclined to think that the numerous problems you mention are all related to the current infection rather than Opera itself!

Sorry to hear you had all that problem with Opera

I'm a huge Opera fan. For my day to day stuff I wouldn't use anything else. It is quick and it has some features the other don't have. Passwords and zoom, etc., Things I use all the time.

I do have the others on my comp. And I do use them occasionally.

I run an up to date Avast and all the major antispyware progs out there. (on demand ones that is) And, I haven't had a problem yet, in say, the year and a half to two year I've been running it.

Wouldn't use anything else.

I do use Firefox occasionally and IE never. That one scares me.

Make sure your scumbware protection is up to date, and high end as well.

I don't think your problem is Opera. Check you virus and spyware progs.
