Need A Great Dictionary? Try This One

This free all-in-one dictionary has oodles of resources.

Dicts.info is a great resource. Here are just a few of the many features:
- Over 70 language dictionaries to choose from
- Picture dictionary containing more than 2500 illustrations with translations in more than 50 languages.
- English acronyms
- English idioms
- GRE words
- SAT words
- Specialty resources related to terminologies for fields such as biology, finance, metallurgy etc.

There's a handy list of grammar resources for 31 different languages, and thesauri in English, Czech, French, German and Polish. The Encyclopedia lists several hundred thematic groups of keywords in many world languages. There's also a list of bilingual dictionaries grouped by language, and dictionary resources that can be downloaded and used offline.

Dicts.info isn't as simple as it appears. Clicking on the "Show all available modules" link at the bottom of the page takes you to all the site resources. Even if you never need most of the features listed, it's good to know where to find them.

I didn't know Microsoft are pulling the plug on Encarta - that's a shame. I hope Microsoft don't pull the plug on their excellent free language translator tool - http://www.microsofttranslator.com/ I was impressed with how it can translate an entire web page on the fly.

That translator tool looks great, I'm going to give it a try.

Mycroft is great. You can add search engines to your browser using it, among other things.

The timing on this is perfect as MSN prepares to pull the plug on Encarta in a few weeks. This looks like an upgrade by 1000%!! Thank you for sharing this information.

I hadn't heard about Encarta being discontinued. =(
